A couple of questions (Dephaser)

  2002 Clio 172
Hi guys first time poster here, my car (2002 172) is sounding like a diesel on tickover and from what ive read its sounds like a dephaser issue.

Just got a few questions for you guys:

1. Can I still run the car (dont do many miles a day in it).

2. Roughly how much does it cost to have it changed.

3. I live in Kettering, Northants. is there anywhere that anyone can recomend to have it done. I have read some of the storys on here about some garages not doing it right.

Thanks in advance

Jonno

my dephaser did this and i drove it for a good year or so before finding out what it was and getting it done. went to devon and back as well as nearly 30 miles a day to work and back.
ive if they colapse though, its like the cam belt snapping so i would get it done when you can. and fred is the best man for the job ^^^

thats what i thought , till about 14 months ago , had one collasped which had been noisy for about a 6 months , was supposed be doing it the next week , then pop it went. can happen , but thats the only one i have seen. i have started giving the customer the choice , but recommend it , to have the dephaser done when i do the belts now. lots seem to have started going noisy .
