72K service in Fife

  182
Hey

I have a 182 54 plate approaching 72k (well 4k off)

I'm a total novice with cars but believe this is the 'big service'. Where in Fife should I go and how much will I be looking to pay?

Thanks,
Gatzi

My 72k is due now too :(

Shouldn't be too pricey as most of the cost is due to getting the cambelt done but yours should have been done by now. Think a few people on here have been to Falkland Performance.

Ah...I thought this got done at 72k? When should it have been done? The Parks Renault garage at Dunfermline I normally go to are useless. They have serviced it since birth yet seem to always know nothing about what needs doing at each service

Well yours is a 54 plate so was due in 2009 (every 5 years or 72k), if it's not done would get the service done now rather than wait until you hit 72k

Oh and just fyi, for my 72k service I am getting the following:
oil/oil filter
pollen filter
coolant
brake fluid
gearbox oil
spark plugs
aux belt

Think that's it anyway...

I swear the Parks garage at Dunfermline don't have a clue, they said it was due at 72k when it got serviced last year

Thanks for the RS Forums solutions again both

Worth bearing in mind Aux belt is every 36k, Cambelt is 72k or 5 years (whichever is sooner).

Falkland from what I have read are very knowledgable and done plenty on here. Kevin seems like a good guy to speak with about what you need.

So I'll need both belts doing then in addition to the service

If I ask for the 72k service will they do all the other stuff i need like koi mentioned above or do I need to ask for that stuff to be done extra?

The local Renault garage says:

replacing of timing belt kit £540.00
carry out 72000 miles service £280.00
these prices has been discounted

FFFFFFuck that. Phone up this guy.... Fred - 07769 712 624. He will beat the quote of £820! I guarantee it. First class guy as well, based in Birmingham, but easy to get to.

Bear in mind I live in Scotland, how much cheaper will he be? And also how long will it take?

Mate I'm in Scotland too!! Should take me about 4.5hrs to get there

* also even taking into account petrol costs it will still work out cheaper than Renault, plus you get someone who knows what they are doing

How about the guy at Glenrothes (Falkland)

Is he just as good to get it done with? Any one know what prices they charge?

got both my belts done by kev a couple of months ago. 182 with air con so the aux kit is more expensive because of the tensioner. it cost me 695 all in for both the belts (genuine from renault and done using the correct tools) + a service (stamped). renault were wanting slightly more when i phoned them and that was without the service.

I got mine done by Ness motors in Perth it would have cost me about £460 if it wasnt for the fact it failed the MOT on other things so i would give them a call.

I was happy with the belts prices but not so much with the prices for the other work that was done. they are a Renaultsport Specialist and will do a good job, worth a phone call to ask for a price for the belts just dont get your MOT done there. lol.

I am also sure there is a Ness motors in Inverness that are also a Renaultsport specialist

Kev@Falkland quoted me

Belts: £600 (£60 more than Renault)
Service £150-200

You said he did both yours for £695 above :(

I may ask him if he can do me for cheaper

as the boys have said, its cheaper to drive south to one of us specialists than it is to go anywhere up there!

for example

£455 for belts
£100 for 12K (oil, oil filter, air filter, cabin filter)
£45 plugs
£35 box oil
£35 coolant
£15 brake fuild (plus labour)

I take it they are rubbish. My car will need its cambelt doing and it had been done by Parks in dunfermaline for £487. that was in 2007 though. Might take it Ness if they are decent otherwise Im going down to brum.

I've nothing against Falkland performance, Kevs always been a top boy, but if Fred can do it for cheaper then why not have a wee journey south of the border.
