52/53 plate

  RS Clio 172
i am a little bewildered re the 52 plate 02 model, 53 plate 03 model nomenclature of the rsc. more to the point the "52/53 plate" etc etc

can anyone offer a simple or detailed explanation?

ps i have tried a search on this forum, but still confused.

thanks, e.sport

Blimey, I had to look up "nomenclature", nice word!

Anyways,

02 is a car registered between 1st March 2002 and 31 August 2002
52 is a car registered between 1st September 2002 and 28th Feb 2003
03 is a car registered between 1st March 2003 and 31 August 2003
53 is a car registered between 1st September 2003 and 28th Feb 2004

...and so on. Nothing with the cars necessarily changes with each new registration date, its just the numberplates that change.

WELL ... renault sport models were slightly modified in 2002 to 2003 , hence 02 models and 03 models .

but some 2002 models wern't registered until older plates 52 plate and 53 plate , the cars were in a field somwhere waiting to be sold to dealerships .

thanks for that so my rsc is not? as it was first registered feb 02. i have noticed that the build plate on drivers' door jamb states "BUILT OCT 01" & on the passengers' door jamb au compliance plate 02/02.

so what does that make mine? a 51 plate

(01 is a car registered between 1st March 2001 and 31 August 2001
51 is a car registered between 1st September 2001 and 28th Feb 2002)

yes? no?

If it was first registered before 1st March it would be the equivalent of a 51 plate, if it was registered between 1st March and 31st August it would be an 02 plate, if it was registered after 31st August it would be a 52 plate.

Kind of irrelevant though as I'm sure the specs are probably slightly different in Aus.

**Just spotted your post, yes yours would be what we would describe as a 51 plate, looking at pics on Google you have whats known as a Mk2 172 here, or to be picky, a MK2 Phase 2 (facelift) 172!**
