I would keep the 182 for a while. If it gets paid for save for a while and you should be able to go for a higher value car....maybe a mint Escort Cosworth or Lancia Integrale.

If it has to be something new maybe wait for this 300bhp RS Focus thats on the cards.

Christ..Escort Cosworth..Lancia Delta....does he want to use a car rather than see it sitting in a garage in bits

If it helps, ive had my 197 for 3 months now and 2.5k. In 2002 I bought a brand new 172 which was a big hike up from a Pug 306 diesel, and I thinks its fair to say it suffered from faults over the whole car bar the engine which was faultless. In crude speed tests it would do 0-60 in 6.5 or so and on a slight down hill would do 145mph. Loved the car but by 2006 it was knackered. 40K on the clock, rattles, electric faults etc. The car had had maybe 25% of his life being driven hard but the rest was .....legal?! I sold up and bought a 225 Audi TT, I had the build qaulity that I wanted, but the car was off the pace, show it a corner and it went straight on, so come 2007 the order went in and my 197 arrived. What a mistake! I kept 80% of the build quality of the Audi, but only 50% of the performance and "grin factor" of the 172. These crude test again gave 0-60 of around 7.5 and I got fed up of crawling past 125 mph. I know it might not be fully run in, but you can just tell theres not much more it can give. I havent driven a corsa vxr so cant comment, but I can give quite informed advice..... Dont buy 197, if the 182 makes you smile half as much as my 172 did then keep it, and look after it. If you want the more grown up approach like in the 197, get something with the VAG 2.0 turbo engine in, giving you the excellant build quality, performance and economy to match.
Now i'll wait to get bood of the stage as Im the new boy............

fairplay mate, that is your opininon and you are entitled to it.

you may well get someone having a go, but that is the way of cliospsort i am afraid.

your 197 sounds like a bad one to me, shame really, as i find it a great imrpovement over my 182 and am sure the performance differences are not that much, if at all.

but that is the thing with cars, one mans machine is another ones nightmare!

I don't bother test driving cars before forming an opinion. I just read Evo while taking a s**t, then come on here and race from my keyboard.

Lol! The 197 is a top car. If you drive it properly, rather than just going out and buying an rs clio for dual carriageway bashing as so many on here seem to do, its superb.

As you say mate, sadly for a car enthusiasts forum, far too many people on here seem to live their life a 1/4 mile at a time. If dragging up and down duals is your bag, then something properly fast might be in order. The way some people bang on, you'd think the 182 was a 10 second car :D

Whilst I was having my morning sh!t (reading evo) I noticed that the new CTR is only 2.05 seconds quicker round the track than a 1.6 Focus!

Aye, was in the wet though, even so, it's still a shockingly bad time. Then again, the CTR is a car for the road, not the track! if you wanted a £20k track car you'd buy a Caterham, not a civic. Track times don't translate into the all-round real world car ownership that some people seem to think it does.

Really? That's interesting. When I get mine I'll go out hunting in the rain for a 1.6 Focus and ask the driver if he fancies following me to the nearest race track via the local sports shop (so we can buy a stopwatch). We can then race around the circuit with our baseball caps on, and afterwards we will go to the pub and w**k ourselves off over the lap times, bhp figures, 'torqz' and vtec 'yo.

Or maybe not. Waddya reckon? :clown:

Anyway read the title of the thread. I don't see any mention of a CTR. Now go get your shine box ;)

Lol @ dual carriageway bashing and living life 1/4 mile at a time.

I thought the 182 was 9.9 second car anyway!? ;)

In my very, very, very honest opinion there isnt a whole lot of difference in a straight line between most of the hatches, whether it be CTR/RS etc and the same probably gos for the 197.

Even if the 197's predicted 0-60 dash is 7.2 or 7.5 does that really mean a car that runs it between 6.5 and 7 secs is gonna be that far ahead?? I cant see it somehow!!!

There all pretty equal in terms of straightline speed in my experience even though iv had none with the 197.

Had trouble getting the 10 trillion car lengths i was supposed to on a pals Fiesta ST the other day. Is modified yes but as far as im aware just has a Viper.

Royston you taken note of this!? ;)
