I appreciate everyone's points and I understand there are so many factors regarding this but being two of the factors in my favour (big ones at that) I am a little hard done by. Anyway onwards and upwards thanks to those who had some suggestions which I'll have a look at and thanks for TheJesus for giving in j/k :rasp:

It does, and it's only a "look out here comes the limiter" light rather than the common misconception that it's an optimum gear change light.

As to the optimum time to change gear - Don't think, feeeel !!!!

Martin summed up the difference - There are good ones and bad ones. Unless he really pulled your pants down I should worry about it. Try to perfect your gear change timing and execution. Failing that let pour some sugar in his petrol tank. lol

^^ Fair enough, I've always thought I had changing gear to a tee. Rev it pretty much to 6800 - 6900 (this though is not looking at the dial, normally.) without touching the limiter seems to give me best 0 - 60 times and it feels right.

Change at optimum RPM (which isn't the redline)? Hmmm possibly, could this have caused a large difference, I know I didn't everytime but what is the optimum in a 182?
