182 rebuilt , And now it sounds like a Subaru ??? HELP

Valves don't need run in he's clearly smoking crack , carry out a compression test would be a start , from what the guy who did the work has told u I would say he has no idea

£350 for all that? I would expect genuine parts alone to exceed £490 which indicates he did not use the correct Renault timing tools either. Could be any number of things - timing out, coil pack, injector. If you're not sure about diagnosing them yourself, just take it to a specialist.

  Trophy Turbo :)
Will be a broken down plug lead, fine at idle and under load will drop into three. Get a new set if leads, even try the s**t ones at Euro first.

Job sounds like a cheap job hes used aftermarket valves etc, i suppose this is ok if done correctly, personally i wouldnt use aftermark valves

Andyrg , this sounds helpful , going to take the inlet off today and check the leads out , is it possible to do this and not fetch the engine management light on though ?

  Cup In bits
Coil pack has numbers on it if you look closely and the cylinder order is no1 g/box side and no4 timing side. Like this looking at the bay 4-3-2-1

  Trophy Turbo :)
its really simple mate on the coil pack its numbered 1 2 3 4 that refers to the cylnders. 1 2 3 4

looking at the engine bay from the front

Steering wheel Passenger side

CY4 CY3 Cy2 Cy1

connect each lead to the coil poack numbers, it wont bring a eml LIGHT ON,

If they are connected wrong i.e on the wrong number the car wouldnt idle right and would sound like a 3 Cylnder car,

Hope this is of help

  54 plate Clio 182 ,
The way the car is running now ( like a scooby) , surely if it was a broken lead , would the EML come on , or do they only come on when a lead is completely f^#%ed

Wiltshire isn't too far from dan@sjm, he is in street.

Id strongly recomend getting it looked at by a specialist sooner rather than later.

The only aftermarket valves I would put in an engine regularly seeing over 5krpm are super tech or g&s ones Etc. Not cheapie auto factor ones, the heads like to fall off when revved.

Sadly my own opinion is his engine is now substandard and I'd personally say it's devalued the car if he is honest about it to a perspective buyer.

Leads and injectors he can check himself, then take it to someone proper if there is still a problem.

I took a picture of the order before removing mine the other day, might be of some use to you;

Sounds exactly how my old Punto GT did when a lost a cam lobe (long story, bad valve guide+seized valve = rounded off cam lobe). THat too would idle fine, and would drive fairly normal until you put your foot down.

If the easy basics don't turn anything up (timing, coilpacks, plugs, injectors) i'd put money on them not rebuilding it correctly. Probably poorly made valves that aren't seating correctly meaning zero compression.

  54 plate Clio 182 ,
Im in the army and won't be able to strip it back , and have a look until the weekend ! thanks for all this help guys, it' will come in handy when I take a look under the hood ;-)
