182 Paint Question - Help!

My missus drives the clio to work, and used to park near a tree , which resulted in a fair bit of bird residue on there (always cleaned off quickly after). I came to clean the car for FCS and even after clay bar, a couple of goes with scratch X, polish, sealant and carnbuba there are still marks all over the laquer where it was! Anyway, I had thought that this would eventually come off, and with that much stuff on the paintwork it should be well enough protected!

Car got attacked again the other day, and I cleaned it that evening, and it seems to have marked the paint again. Am going to try a proper clean again this weekend, but it doesnt seem to bode well!

Have other folks with metallic, in particular Black gold clios had similar problems, or do I have a poor paintjob? I wonder if mine has soft laquer of something, as bird muck shouldnt etch the paint after being there a couple of hours - maybe after a couple of weeks!

Am considering sending it in to Renault, but dont want them to screw it up more! Any ideas on what I can do (missus has now changed her parking habits, after being shown how much work it took to get the worst of the marks out!)...

i have black gold too and have the same problem with marking the paint , im sure theres a target painted on my roof .lol.dont think its anything to do with black its just renaults paint, but all paints now are water based and not as durable as the old 2pak stuff if you look at most modern cars you will find all the paint marks easy,

Th paint on my black gold does seem really soft. Luckily the car is garged so have had no problems with the bird poo.

If they have eatern lots off berrys the Sh*t can be really acidic and on black paint it seems to etch really badly even after a few hours.

A mild machine polish should remove them.

mines the same, has marks all over it :( but saying that so does my missus one series....

A sloppy bird sh*t may well etch after only a few hours, sounds like you may have some stusk on tree sap as well if parked under a tree. The roof could probbaly do with a good polish, something stronger than scratch-x, try and find someone near you who owns a porter cable pc and polish the roof panel properly

Thanks for the replies folks - looks like machine polish time then, what products would folks recommend to use? One thing I didnt mention earlier was that even scratch-X seemed to mark the paint - leaving scrapes in the laquer (not swirls - it was applied properly!!!) but these did then polish out...

I definitely think the paints not as durable as older versions! Even my T-plate escort (also metallic black) resists marks nuch better than this... Although saying all that, you cant beat black gold, ploished up and gleaming in the sun!

I noticed the Scratch X marr my paint to if you didnt work it long enough. You need to work it until it breaks down to a finer polish, it starts off course and diminishes down to a finishing polish.

Under halogen I could see fine marks where I had used it, follw up with a milder polish such as Autoglym resin and they polish out.

Yes, have had this problem too (with Arctic Blue) but not only with bird residue but with flys stuck on the front leaving marks as well.

  Titanium 182

Hi Browno

Ive had exactly this on the Titanium after about 2 hours : see my thread here with pics http://forum.cliosport.net/display_topic_threads.asp?ForumID=2&TopicID=157985http://forum.cliosport.net/display_topic_threads.asp?ForumID=2&TopicID=157985

Took it into Renault as I didnt really want to muller it myself and they simply used T-Cut. I brought it home, polished and waxed it and its 100% perfect now.

Nothing before the T-Cut would remove it at all.

Now I have a clean 182 that clunks rattles rather than a messy one.

Hope it helps., Neil

Ive tried T-Cut but that hasnt done much at all.

How long did you spend polishing it with that?

Thanks for all the advice - Hadnt realised about scratch X breaking down - had just assumed I needed to go to something finer to finish...

The links definitely show the effect Ive got - think Ill try several applications of Scratch-X this weekend and really work it in properly, and if that doesnt work Ill look for more serious options! Will then put on yet more sealant + carnuba to try to up the protection a bit more!

If the Scratch X is still not working, step up to AG paint renovater. Seems to do the trick even by hand.
