  FN2 Type R GT
I couldnt believe my eyes when i was sat outside sainsburys and a learner driver goes past in a 182!! i was in shock, and also very annoyed that i couldnt learn in one!!

My first driving lesson was in a 172 cup :D

My cousin only let me near it once, same with the Trophy as well :(

why is it suicidal, as long as the person has self control and the person instructing them doesnt let them get carried away i dont see a problem. Of the driving instructors around me, one uses a Civic Type R, and another uses a ST170

exactly, ive seen 325i learners cars from driving schools, some people who learn to drive at an older age pay the premium for a nicer car!!

i'm 28 and learning at the moment, in a diesel corsa lol, though am out everyday in mine with my mate. Just so long to wait for my test at local centre - 8 weeks from when i booked!

I passed in a 1.7 astra! One of the new ones, diesel it was. Once put my foot down in 2nd, the girl instructor wasnt impressed, i was! :D

passed my test 2day, was quite pleased!! although took mine in my own car because the waiting list was far 2 long, cancellation was booked last week!! i think id definetly get carried away if i learnt in anything more than a 1.2!! i just wanna go faster, will have 2 wait a few years before i can get my 182!!

congrats on passing test!! 1st time? i had to wait 3 yrs and drive a 1.0l corsa to build up no-claims

Its suicidal because on occasions the instructor may not be fully awake or whatever, they are human like all of us and make mistakes, and a mistake in a car like that could be much more dangerous than that in a slower car! I say nothing above about 130bhp ish for learners (my past instructor has a fabia vrs and its just right to help learners deal with the power etc but not too dangerous)

so if your in a faster car your not gonna be driving at the same speed then? even a 1.2 is capable of all of the uk speed limits with a little bit in reserve.

Its a bit of a generalisation saying that a learner is gonna be dangerous in a more powerful car. I know people who have driven for years and i will never be a passenger in a car driven by them as they are f*cking dangerous. By the same token i know people who have passed recently and have powerful cars and i feel very safe in the car with them.

  you may know it, clio?
cant be true tho

cause my step brothers dad was going to let him drive passed school in the lambo with learner plates (when he was one) on until he realise how hard it was to drive LOL

its bright orange so gets enough attraction

  172 cup
its a nice easy car to drive, so why not

but when i went to test drive a grinnal scorpian (3 wheels and 250ish bhp per ton) a lady had bought one to learn to drive in.
suprisingly the instructor refused to teach her

Bloody hell, when I learnt to drive it seemed all driving schools had little Mini's and 1.0 Fiesta's and the like, even then I thought driving lessons where expensive, must be expensive to run a Type R as a learner school car would have thought, plus a bit scary for the instructor lol ;)

There is talk of limiting new drivers to small engined/ low power cars for the first 2 years......( I read that somewhere) wonder what driving schools with type r and ST's will do then?

Don't think so because they said they got a cancellation, which I believe you can only get after at least 1 attempt.

They onl;t kep the cars at best a year so won't be an issue.

As for cost not a huge issue when you think the amout they loose/spend.

Im teaching my girlfriend in my 182, and im pretty comfortable with it. She knows im protective of my car and is as careful as she can be. Can be quite annoying when she misses 3rd and puts it into first!!

  LY V6 with Recaros
Lucky for some, I learnt in a 1.2 fiesta. Then I had to drive around in a 1.0 Micra until I could afford insurance on a faster car!

I learnt how to drive in my mums R5 GTT back in the day when I was 17. Started at 16 at the Cardrome in Romford as it is off public roads!! Use to be able to get just over 70 mph down the back straight there!!

I remember taking my dads old escort down there. How you got up to 70mph is beyond me though, I'm sure I could never get over 30 lol!

What planet are you on, at the sort of revs learners are using the VRS will have plenty more poke than a 172etc?
