182 Cat to Exhaust Manifold Gasket Too Big

Hi,

Had a bit of a blow coming from my cat, on inspection there was no car fitting kit, just a mix match of bolts and washers, so I got a fitting kit.

The old gasket was sat nicely in the cat, flush and flat. I have put the new one in and was advised to tighten the cat and manifold together to get it to compress into place.

This done, I am a bit stuck. You can see the meshy gasket, around 1cm is still exposed. Is this normal?

I tested it, seemed ok apart from the manifold sounding very metallic and rattly - I dont know if this is anything to do with it.

Anyone offer any info?

Yeah it's normal to still see some of the mesh gasket .
