172 wont start after engine swap

  172
Purchased a 172 that was half way through an engine swap.

Trying to start it but its not having it.

Will no water in cooling system stop it starting... Not sure if it has a level switch anywhere?

Imobiliser light goes out so im sure its not relatef to that. It primes and turns over. Owt else???

Found out what the switch is for now.

Are they fussy about voltage when starting? Not got a battery on... Just using a booster pack

have you pulled a plug lead check for spark? they dont like low battery power as relays drop out and shut ecu down on cranking? if no spark is the fuel pump starting up when cranking??? pos crank sensor??

Fuel pump is defo priming and when i pull the pipe off the rail it squirts fuel all over.

Did have a spark but not sure it was that great!

Took crank sensor out and cleaned it

Ive left it now as it had the last laugh and took a chuck out my finger while i was plugging somert lol!

Think the best thing i can do is sort a good battery and start from the beginning

Thanks for your post though

Look on the diff. Should be a ring terminal. Make sure it's connected and tight.

Also make sure u have fuel when cranking not priming

Take it the best way to check would be to take the top inlet off and look down the lower while cranking?

Ive had it off and it looks wet but not had it off while cranking

I'll check the earth

Been back on it today

New battery - no change
New plugs - no change
New coilpack - no change
New crank sensor - no change
Different uch/ecu - no change

Checked earths
Had fuel rail out while cranking , injecting ok
Checked cam timing

Read that a coolant sensor can stop it starting.... Why?

Been advised to do a comp check and live diagnostic so will do these next

Only other thing... When sat with key on , throttle doesnt move till pedal 3/4 down then it snaps open. Is that correct?

Any help greatfully recieved

Managed to borrow an autel diagnostic and had a quick look tonight. Got a couple of codes stored

Would either of those stop it starting?

Air inlet valve... I believe thats the acoustic valve? Well its plugged in so is it knackered or have i a wiring fault

Next... Can anyone spot owt that doesnt look right? This is just car sat with ign on

Slipped or badly set timing yes?

So the question is, am i going to be faced with bent valves now?

Head off... No bent valves [emoji106] ... Headgasket blown between all cylinders [emoji107]. Obv failed waterpump lost coolant!
