172 running issues on hills

Hey guys

Ive had a problem with my clio for a month now.
I thought it had a cold running issues, with severe kangerooing. (More than normal)
Also stalling, when cold, and not starting on the first turn of the key.

I have had the following things done.
Cleaned Throttle body
cleaned crankshaft sensor
new plugs and HT leads
New lambda sensor

I still have the problem but I have discovered today that its not a cold running issue but its;
Misfiring whilst driving uphill. When I drive home from work, its in a steep valley and it wants to stall whilst driving on hills, even when really accellerating.
Which causes a huge spate of kangerooing, and no accelleration.
It is so dangerous as when you pull out infront of someone, even if they are quite far away they are literally right up behind you.
I just assumed that because it was still cold, it was a cold running issues.
However It did it when hot today, whilst driving uphill.

So what could an uphill misfire be caused by?

Sorry if it doesnt make too much sense as im on the phone.

No warning light? coil? make sure you have not piniched a HT lead when refiting intake?

No warning lights, nothing coming up when plugged in either.
Coil may have been replaced as my local garage has done the work.
I did ask them to replace it.
I wouldn't have thought a pinched HT lead would be an issue if its fine for normal driving but not uphill.

Im thinking it might be a fuel supply issue.
Any ideas?

If its pinched, when the HT load goes up (Hill) it will jump past the insulation. simple enought to check fuel presure and good idea.

How can I check the fuel pressure, is it something I can do from home, or is it a workshop job?
im going to have a look for pinched ht leads today, cheers for that.

Agree on potentially pinched HT lead. Only other thing you haven't done on your list of the usual suspects that are at fault to cause misfire / bad running are;

- injectors
- temperature sensor

although these would usually cause the engine management light to flicker or be on.

Or something more problematic. My advice would be get it to a specialist on here before you go throwing more money on it by taking it to a 'local garage'. Of course, this advice doesn't apply if the local garage is a specialist.

Ok I investigated the routing of the HT leads.
What i found was the cables run to the far left of the throttle body top renaultsport bit, then all 4 went underneath on the left side.
Im guessing this wasn't correct, because when I run my fingers along the back of this tb unit plenum. I noticed a space about an inch or two along from the left that felt was big enough for the cables to fit.
So I lifted the whole tb unit off, and checked the cables. There were signs of chafing, but luckily the leads we're not stripped / bare they still had insulation on them being new cables.
I rerouted the cables to this area on the back of the tb, now the cables move about freely instead of being tight, and trapped underneath the tb unit.

I took the clio for a drive up some hills, and guess what, no misfire.
I believe this has fixed the issue, so I shall test again tomorrow on my way home from work.
If its fine there driving out of the valley, we shall know that this was the problem.

Thanks for the help guys.
Much appreciated :)
my mechanics did the job, and hadn't noticed the routing of the cables, they aren't going to be getting my business anymore.

Hey guys.
That sorted out most of the issues I've been having with the clio.

However it is is stalling when rolling up to junctions.
Also when the car was up to temp and cruising down a dual carriageway today, suddenly out of nowhere It had a terrible misfire, it got progressively worse, till I couldn't put any power down or even cruise, it felt like I lost a cylinder or two. So I pulled into a lay-by and it stalled as I was slowing down.
So I turned everything off, and restarted the car.
it was fine for the rest of the journey following this, about another 13miles.

So why am I still getting intermittent misfires?
This is really annoying me to the point where I'm looking to replace the car.
Any new suggestions on the misfire?

Bump please see post #9

i thought the car was fixed, but I got such a bad misfire the other day that the car cut out.
whilst up to temp on a dual carriageway.
