172 gearbox

well recently my gearbox went in my 182 and i since put a 172 gearbox in it yesterday, and it feels as if it pulls much better lower down the revs.. and more of a kick at 5k? is this normal or am i just being stupid for not driving my car for 2 weeks?

I think the 172 ph2 box has slightly lower ratio final drive, so would accelerate slightly faster. But whether you could notice this or not is up for debate

my ph1 172 has much more of a kick at 5k than either of the two 182's i've driven ... don't know why though!

if it's a ph1 box then it would have a different final drive. IIRC, the ph2 had the same boxes. There is less of a 5K kick in the ph1 (well the one I drove anyway). It felt like more of a linear acceleration throughout.
