172 cup shocks Vs 172 shocks

Are 172 cup shocks, stiffer than 172 shocks?

What it is, i want a stiffer shock, but with a high ride hight, coil overs are no use to me as i'd rather keep breaking standard shock other than 5/600 £ coilovers that i cant get a replacement for.

Some say they are different some dont. In all honesty I dont know but i do have some cup ones for sale . . .

As said, Don't want to damage anything expensive to start with.... as clio will be used for offroad/rallying.
