1.6 16v Engines Different timing tools

  Trophy Turbo :)
The 2005/2006 megane Scenic with the 1.6 16v engine.

I was a little disappointed to find that my Renault tools didn't fit this engine! the Crank Pin was too short and the cam locking tool didn't bolt into the cams as it does on the clio, Lucky i had a long pin from a Franklin kit, and my mate stood there holding the cam locking tool in place! Why do they do this, youll end up with 8 different tools to do the job.

never the less we sorted it, i dont work for other people but if it hadn't of been my mate id of put the car back together and turned it back

You remove the lifting eye from the front right of the head then screw the horse-shoe to the head ;)

Also, the pin isn't a "Lock" pin as such and is merely a "Stop" so you cannot advance the crank past TDC... they're only £14 though as they're easy to bend when you let kids play (and insist on forcing the crank into it making a nice "Thudd")

mick i know exactly what to do with the top cam tool, I'm saying it doesn't fasten into the head mate, its a complty different cast on the new engines and there is NO place for it to lock into, well there is but its in a completely different place about a 3 inchs along.

The tool is a locking tool on the clio and it does lock the crank for turning either way. The megane has only as you rightly state a stop and you can still turn the engine anti clock wise,

I bet if we look into this renault will have a different part number for the cam locking on these 1.6 engines 2005>

i prefer doing this tho its there for a reason and if it fell out with out knowing you could end up in all sorts of trouble.
