    M100CUP goes hardcore

    Great thread. Doune next weekend?

Crash helmets, where to buy from?

Nicky Grist is excellent. Very knowledgable and great after sales service to make sure the helmet fits correctly.

    Replacement engine rattle with video

Hi @Leslie Graham apologies for bringing up an old thread but did you confirm whether this was the lifters and did you manage to sort it without removing the lifters? I suspect I've got the same issue with mine. Thanks.

    Lowering steering column

Yes I had to bend back the tabs mentioned above. It's a fiddly job. I think I got the lower bolts in first, loosely, then put the upper ones in. I could take a pic of my one if you like but it'll probably be Wednesday before I'm back at the car.

    Cylinder head advice

I'm sure someone will correct me if I'm wrong but I thought the guidelines were that these heads shouldn't be skimmed. In any case I think heads are normally skimmed by around 8 thousandth but mine was missing around 40 thousandth. I also had issues with the timing belt but I've used a thicker...

    Cylinder head advice

He skimmed a big chunk off the head and the engine failed shortly after it was built. There’s question marks over whether he’d cleaned the oilways and whether he’d changed the valve guides which he’d charged me for separately. When I asked if the valve guides had actually been changed, he...

    Cylinder head advice

It's worth doing some research before getting any cylinder head work done. Like a few others on this forum, ALD (or A.L.D) worked on my head and it's had major problems. In the half season of racing I've now missed, I've been in touch with him to try and resolve it and been given no help.

    Insurance re-newal

I used to find that going direct to elephant / bell / admiral got the lowest quotes. All the same company so doesn't really matter which. Shite to deal with and always had issues with them but cheap. If doing a price comparison website, I think moneysupermarket is the best.

    Engine breather pipe?

Have a look at your first photo, that pipe which joins the elbow between the throttle body and the airbox should look familiar

I'll have another look tomorrow. Cheers

    Lowering steering column

Hi @alistairolsen , Had a quick look at this the other day and from what I could see, the column is mounted by two vertical bolts - the ones you mentioned and two horizontal bolts (one captive as per the picture). Is this the same as yours? My car is a 172 cup. From the horizontal bolts, there's...

    Lowering steering column

Alistair, thanks for that. I'll give that a go! You managed this without removing the dash top? That would be a benefit as my cage makes removal of the dash a little trickier.

Can anyone recognise cause of my handling problem - no steering control at speed

If you've checked everything at the front end have you checked for play at the back end? That could be causing the car to get a wiggle on.

    Lowering steering column

Alistair, did you get this sorted? I'm thinking of doing this tomorrow morning. Did 70mm bolts work alright? Thanks,

    Car set up in Scotland

Thought it might be helpful for anyone in Scotland to point towards Rentec in Edinburgh who have been helping us with the set up of our 172 cup for hillclimbs and sprints. We first went to them on the recommendation of another guy who was racing a clio and since then we've used them for...

    Bucket seats

When I bought mine last year, they came with sidemounts and runners as standard. They definately will not come with a subframe. I would expect you'll need a subframe. I got mine from Steve Turner at Turner Autosport who was very good and I'm sure he can give you a definitive answer for your car.

    Bucket seats

I have a pair of the club sports and I'd recommend them. I'm 5'9" and 12st and they fit well. They came with side mounts and runners which is also a bonus. I got mine from Turner Autosport who are very good.

Does the mileage make a big difference when looking for a track toy?

I bought mine on 113k a couple of years ago, we use ours for hill climbs and sprints and it's still going very strong. Another vote here for looking at maintenance over mileage.

    Sound System Upgrade Choices

I think this was the one for sale previously. Just had a search online and they seem to be rated quite highly and go for good money. Looks like £200 could be a reasonable price.

    Sound System Upgrade Choices

There is an after market head unit that looks very oem but last time I saw one on here in the parts for sale section the guy wanted £200 for it! Worth having a look for though if you're very keen on this.

    Sound System Upgrade Choices

The sound was very good, not audiophile fantastic. The limiting factor was the trim. Mine was let down by the mid range from the 8" speakers in the doors. The door cards couldn't hold the speakers firmly enough. This is the same as for hi fi's where you'd use spikes on the feet of floorstanders...

    Sound System Upgrade Choices

I tried something similar before. I spoke to a guy that had won a load of awards for car sound systems and the advice I got was to keep it as simple as possible. I got everything from the same brand (I chose Alpine), I got an amp, headunit, component mid range and tweeters in the front and a...

Brake line replacement (copper lines - not flexis)

No results from searching this topic.. I'm looking to replace the copper lines from the master cylinder to the flexis. They run between the bulkhead and the heatshield and there's very little room behind the engine. Just going on the amount of space available, it appears to be an engine out...

    hi all

I saw a cracker of a 182 for sale this morning. It's racing blue in cup spec, 2 owners, 70k miles and 1500 quid if you want details?

Engine using oil and smoking - replacement/rebuild?

The swap isn't too bad. I did my first one last year and didn't need ramps. You'd be ok with a set of axle stands and a hoist. There's nothing technical about it. Just label everything as it comes off and take plenty of photos. There's also a few good guides on here.
