Yeah it's been a right pain in the neck lol its such a simple mechanism as well. It looks like the caliper arm is bent or too far forward, which makes it impossible to set correctly at the adjuster.
I bought it from unipart, they take my old one in exchange...
I am hoping they will swap it...
Been thinking about this all night I can't think of anyway of that slack coming out of the cable.
Think I need to double check the path of the ns cable.
Any one got any other ideas?
It's going in for mot tomorrow so maybe they'll tell me what is wrong lol
Cheers
Richard
Hi,
I have just replaced a rear caliper on a 172. After fitting all seemed ok apart from the hand brake cable. Offside really tight but ns very loose. Stretched hand brake cable I thought, so I have just replaced both sides tonight with brand new genuine Renault cables. Os still very tight...
I've had this happen to me with genuine Renault discs (they come with the bearing pressed). It was a sticking rear caliper that cracked the disc on mine.
Whip the rear caliper off (you'll have to clamp the brake pipe), take it to a local motor shop and they'll sort you out with a recon unit...
Thanks all, when this wet weather dies down I'll get the car jacked up and have a good look.
Moving soon...and a house with a garage is top of the wanted list :)
I guess it's another hub off to measure it :(
I'm right in thinking I need to take a little care with the passenger side driveshaft, that's the side that will leak gearbox oil if it comes loose?
Thanks
Richard
Hi,
I am having more nightmares with my wife's clio sport 172.
I am getting a real juddering and feedback from the brake pedal on a clio 172 (non cup). I have replaced the discs and the pads but forgot to check the abs ring!
Am very annoyed with myself but I have had real distraction as I had...
Look at the thread of the bolt it's probably spinning when tightening the nut.
Easy way is to use a jack and jack up to the bottom of the ball joint. That will hold it in place and let you tighten the nut.
Hi,
I'm not having a good day...
1) Failed interview
2) Letter from HMRC
3) Snapped wheel stud
I had just replaced the front discs and pads on the N/S and took the wheel off the front O/S, nuts extremely tight (new tyres recently) so I had to get the good old breaker bar out to loosen, very...
Thanks for the replies guys.
New rear discs last year (seized rear caliper cracked the disc!).
Am guessing it has to be the fronts then, will post back on here once I've had a look :-)
Cheers
Rich
Hi,
Hoping someone can point me in the right direction here...
Every now and then there is a grating from the brake pedal, I can hear nothing from the brakes or discs.
Braking also doesn't seem to be as good.
It's on a 2003 172 non cup.
Had a good read on here and sounds like...
Exactly what's happened to mine, ht lead destroyed. Think it's easy to forget the enormous pressure a spark plug is placed under.
I think helicoil is the best option tbh just trying to avoid it.
Any idea what size the helicoil is?
Thanks
Rich
Hi,
Thanks for the replies, problem is it's very hard to know if there is any thread damage.
I think I'm talking myself into helicoil, but I'd rather not.
Hmm
Thanks
Rich
Just trying to find out what other people would do..? I've got the spark plug out, but not sure what condition the thread is in. Could the spark plug have just come unscrewed, in which case would it be okay to just put a new plug in, or would you helicoil, just to be on the safe side? Thanks...
Hi,
Had to pick my wife up yesterday as we have had a little problem with her Clio Sport 172 (I think it will be the end of me :D).
Apparently there was a loud clunk and then the engine was making a loud tapping banging noise - luckily she pulled over asap.
Towed the car back home last night...
Think you might have hit the nail on the head here.....
I've had all wheels off tonight, front one near side seemed a little suspect, but on taking it out for a test drive i could tell the noise was defo coming from the rear.
Took the OS rear disc off and low and behold no spacer - this is...
Hi,
Thanks for the replies.
The washer I was referring to is between the disc and the hub nut which means the bearing is just against the hub nut! Doesn't seem right to me, seems to be missing on the rear n/s (passenger) but there is one on the off side (drivers). Can anyone on here supply me...
Hi,
I am having a really hard time with my girlfriends Clio sport 172, I can do various work on the car myself i would say basic to intermediate as far as my skills go. But we have a few problems with her Clio Sport 172 so i am hoping someone can help me :)
The car has developed a humming...
Yep can't believe it but have paid it, it hurt too...
Might leave the cat then, can it do any damage to the exhaust system if I leave it? If not then think I'll leave it till the mot if it fails on emissions then I'll get it done :-) thanks for the advice guys.
Must say didn't fancy...
just had the front exhaust bolts and gasket replaced... charged 4 hours labour! But that's another matter (did hear it's a pain in the bum) they told me that the cat had collapsed inside and that it needs replacing.
Is it easy to do?
Hi,
I have just been told that the cat needs replacing on my gf's clio sport 172.
Is it an easy job? I have searched and can't find a guide so i imagine it must be straightforward. Anyone got any pointers or a short list of instructions?
Where is the best place to get the part, heard renault...
Thanks for the replies guys, wonder what happened to the original seal, i can't see it anywhere.
It must be that seal that is causing the high idles though?
Thanks
