Oh and give your steering wheel a bloody good clean before you lay it up as it's the first thing to get mouldy, it might look clean but I've found giving it a thorough clean avoids the mould. (Sounds silly I know!)
I laid my clio up for about 18 months in a rented garage no probs, you have got everything covered by the looks of it, although I would suggest getting some fresh anti freeze in there if it's being stored through winter and remember to leave the handbrake off, so easy to forget!
I'm at times doing upto 1000 miles a week in my 172 and in about 40k, I've had 2 wheel bearings go, 1x radiator, 1x shock and that's it besides consumables, tyres, pads etc. I'm guilty of not keeping up on servicing either! As my other projects take priority.
Deffo a stat issue, it does not take long at all to change mate, i didn't go for a renault item which could be mistake from what others have posted on here - but all good so far. Cost me £9 from a motorfactors and about 30 mins to fit maximum (get a mate to hold a torch if you have to do it on...
I do mega miles in my 172, sometimes 300 miles a day and when the stat went on mine, would sit a quarter of the way up the gauge and only get to full temp in traffic and i can confirm it really effects your fuel economy!! i was losing about 60 miles per tank full, all changed now and economy is...
Just for info, I do high miles in my 172 and will easily get 200 miles to £30 of fuel (mainly motorway) so something is definately going on (i'm guilty of not really maintaining it well either as its my daily work hack!)
Yes mate, get mileage rate of 25p a mile and £250 a month to cover wear and tear. Its a bit random really, some weeks i do next to nothing and others weeks its mad (work as a building surveyor).
If i was sensible, i'd get a diesel but love getting paid to drive the 172 :) and it does pretty...
My brothers (52 plate) 172 cup has a compensator valve and it does have the arm connected (had seized and stopped any fluid going to the rear brakes) so it seems its a bit hit and miss as some are and some are not - dealer confirmed this aswell....
Right there has been loads of progress of late but i've been a let down and not updated the thread :(
Here's a few taster pics,
Thats 10 1/4" :)
Will do a full update later this week...

Finally had chance to start getting some prep done,
Now time to measure how much width I can get away with...
Looks a little lost now :p
The clearance..
The size!?
6"+4" band = 10" happy with that or do I push for 11" with stretch?!
Now a top tip to you all don't take loads of resto pic's on your iphone then forget to back them up and then get it stolen on holiday :(
So some gaps here but sums up whats been done and you can see my dad doing the welding, I chop it out he welds its back, so its a massive bonus for me with...
Right here's some rust....
I started out by cutting away a section where my screw driver had gone through to find,
Cut some more....
So it was clear that although the bulk of the outer sill was fine, but the inner was not.
I then removed the front wing as its had never been removed in all the...
V8 build time - I bought a second hand 3.9 v8 off here for a very good price, sold as being bought from a breakers and arrived on a pallet complete with loom ecu etc as it was an EFI engine.
Upon first inspection it seemed very clean and with the water pump pulley snapped off, so it looks like...
Ignore that! things have changed, 2yrs on and i'd forgot i'd even posted this on here, well i'm still at....here's a copy and paste of a thread i've got running on another forum from the start to where i'm at now,
Right i've been on here ages and never done a proper readers rides thread so...
Where in the West mids are you? i know of a bodyshop that did a very good repair on a friends clio with similar damage and they did it for a reasonable price (they are based in Burntwood, staffordshire)
Yeah thats what worries me i may change the wishbone (complete with new ball joints) and change the tack rod end as a matter of precaution as it not mega expensive parts wise and have no probs doing it myself. Then get it tracked up during the mot and hope for the best.
When i did hit the curb...
Just getting my Phase 1 172 back on the road after a few years of standing. The front nearside tyre has excessive wear on the both the outer and inner edge.
Am i right in guessing its probably either play in the ball joint or track rod end?
Just pror to being laid up i did manage to hit a curb...
Oh i see your the West Mid's rep now and Donny is still aswell so we have two? suppose it makes sense with the size of the area (told you i'm out of touch!)
Yeah i heard they done the rounds :) i have no other real use for it apart from track action as i use my ph2 daily. So when they popped up at a decent price it was the perfect option to get it back on the road with some fresh rubber. Bullets will be done, along the cold air feed in the front fog...
Unlucky mate, i had a moment the other day when i always binned mine into the back of another car, speed was not a factor just the case of me being stressed out at work and not concentrating on my driving..
Just beeing nosey really, as i missed out on coming :(
How many Clio's took part this year then? i've noticed a complete lack of phase 1's in the pics...
