hi Vomboy,
had the steering rack bush replaced on the nearside where the knocking was coming from and i have to say, the car is loads better, noise gone and feels far more planted.
Wasn't expensive either, £66 all in from a renault specialist.
cheers stu
I get about 27-28 at the mo, yes it gets some beans now and then but is mainly due to sitting in traffic and having the air-con on.
On a good run i'll see 35+
followed a 182 cup in my 182 ff 2 days ago , we'd been sitting in traffic for about 20 mins , the road cleared, he nailed it, so did i, my w'screen was absolutely covered inn water/ vapour from his exhausts.
totally normal, nothing to worry about.

hi jonny,
My mrs had a dci brand new on a 54 plate and covered 70k in just under 3 years with no problems at all. She bought another brand new clio campus dci in sept 07 and has covered 11k already, again touch wood, with no problems.
The mk2 dci comes with 3 power outputs 65brake, 80 and...
Mine is going in next tuesday to have the steering rack bushes replaced, does the noise only happen when the engine is cold?, if so, this was the recommended cure from renaultsport technical.
cheers stu
I've contacted renaultsport about a knocking noise on my steering and they've suggested that it could be the steering rack bushes. They also said that the steering would wander if this is the case.
Worth looking at i reckon.
Just to let you guys know, the car's booked in to be checked over on wednesday at an independent specialist. Once i know what's wrong i'll let you know, it's becoming very annoying.

Just a slightly different take on things, i know the 1*2's aren't the fastest cars on earth but to be comparing them to cars with superior/more modern technology and power, i think , is credit to renault, after all it's all about smile per mile !! and the clio in that respect is hard to beat .
Renault recommend 12k or every 2 years as in the maintenance service book supplied with the car. I always change the oil and filter in between services though. They also recommend that the brake fluid and coolant systems are flushed out at a maximum of 4 years, which i've just had done, now that...
Decided to take the car out for a spin ( not literally), and once the engine was up to operating temperature the noise disappeared, weird or what ? I explained this to a mate of mine and he said it could be the power steering pump? If so is this expensive to sort?
Cheers stu.
Hi all,
Just wondered if anyone could diagnose a problem for me.
Got in the 182 to move it off my drive and as i'm stationary and turning the wheel left to right there is quite a loud clunking/ knocking noise. Any ideas ?
Many thanks
Stu
Mornin eggy,
The mini is a no no as they are seriously cramped in the back,as regards all the rest, if i was looking for a car for the same reason i'd probably take the leon, a good blend of performance, looks and practicality, new shape or old.:)
cheers stu
Do you drive with the climate control on ? Just a thought as this wouldn't help.
I get around 27 mpg with it on and around 30ish with it off.
cheers stu
Dci 65 is insurance group 2e and has slightly more torque than a 1.6 16v as standard. My wifes has done 68k and although it's never going to set the tarmac alight in real world driving it's far from slow in gear.
cheers stu.
Hi coupedean,
My mrs has a dci 65 which she's had from brand new. It's on a 54 plate and has covered over 63,000 with not a single problem. I think they're great little cars and wouldn't hesitate in buying another.
cheers stu
