Finally got round to sorting this and thought would post for reference. Garage couldn't get what they thought was a good quality replacement as original part NLA. But did find that a 2015 Mitsubishi L200 boot is an exact fit for a 172 ph1 O/S outer boot, albeit it is brilliant orange 🍊

Tesco antibac wipe trim restoration started also, coming up well. Scrub with the wipes and as the coating start to smear wiped off with meths and then coated with wax and buffed up

Steering and suspension refresh completed, new wishbones, track rod ends, ball joints, steering rack gaiters and steering rack bushes fitted along with new front shock top rubbers Also sorted the sump gasket leak, no metal present just some oil sludge in the sump fortunately

Finally got round to doing some Tesco antibac wipe trim restoration on my Ph1, works a treat thanks for sharing!!!! Found once the wipes worked their magic on the coating and it starts smearing a quick wipe with meths took it straight off, super quick
