I think my 197 gearbox is dead , crunches into 2nd and 3rd up and down the box and on a recent track day it whines real bad in these two gears ,

What the best thing , rebuild price by local specialist was £250 to remove and install plus between £550 and £850 for rebuild...
I'm running 215 45 17 federal 595RSR my tyre guys advised not going wider on standard rims as they said the wider ones would roll on the rims , 225 will go on so your call really ,

Car in for mot , they advised in steering rack tie rods worn so I asked them to replace them along with the outer ball joints , just got the car back and the steering is really bad , wanders all over the place and feels as if steering wheel is not attached...

Can any one tell me why I have a normal roller bearing in the rear driver side and a taper roller bearing in the passenger side on my 172
All the discs with bearings I look at seem to have normal bearings , can the taper one be changed for a normal roller bearing ??

Ok update
Stripping axle and found knackered shock on passenger side , doesn't help with the damage but explains the crash !!!
Only the French could use bolts to hold on an axle 1.5 inches longer than needed, threads full of crap and rust so air gun them off I think ... Does any one know if...
