I replaced that wire when swapping the barrel over. I was going to test running a switched earth to the relay later to see if it starts.
I tested all the grey, black, red and white wires from the ecu to the relay area last night and they are all ok. Also tested the twisted purple and white wires.

OK So after doing some more troubleshooting with a helper last night I found that moving the relay holder unit around made the engine keep cranking and at one point the fuel pump primed and it started.
I've ordered a new fusebox with all new fuses and relays so I'll fit that tomorrow.

Ok so it still has the same fault. Tried other batteries. Tested continuity between the ecu and crank sensor. Tested the Relays. No power to the coil.
Also sometimes when cranking it cranks a few times and stops and sometimes it just keeps cranking
OK so update: I removed the white multi pin connector and soldered all of the wires. I also sanded down the terminals on the relays and used a load of contact cleaner on the fusebox terminals. It fired up straight away - didn't touch the battery.

yeah the engine loom includes the fuse box but there's that white multi plug it connects to the car loom with which is pretty crap. I've cleaned it up but could also be causing problems.
yeah no harm in buying a new one and running a new cable. I just want it to be reliable. It's so frustrating. It's a track only car so going to a track day and spending the day with a multimeter isn't a lot of fun.

So finally had some time to take another look at the clio today and it appears there is definitely a wiring fault as moving the fuse box allowed it to crank over and not stop unlike what it was doing, cracking for a few turns and stopping.

compression reads just over 150PSI on all cylinders.
I don't know if it's firing at all but assume it's partically firing to be sooted up?
It could well be the fuel on the lambda was from lots of cranking and not starting.
Agreed but the misfire is probably throwing the lambda sensor out as it's chucking fuel into the exhaust?
It appears that even resetting the codes isn't the fix. I've tried swapping the ECU, UCH and key but it doesn't make any difference.
I think it's clearly a sensor stopping it working so...
Ok so the only way to make it start is to check the codes, clear them and then it starts.
No idea why that is, idea thoughts?
And I've still got a misfire on cylinder 2. Its not plugs, leads, Injectors or coil as I've changed them.

OK so after trying everything i remembered that I had a similar problem on a BMW e30 and I need to earth the ECU. My ECU isn't in the normal location.
