Neighbour Scraped my Car

  BMW 840i Gran Coupe
A neighbor scraped my car on the offside rear quarter and along one of my strips, it's pretty bad, the wheel arch is also dented. The car was pretty immaculate. I am fuming, but where do I stand?

I know the car, a dark green Corsa b. And their house number, but they didn't leave any details.

What can I do. It must have happened this morning, as I am 100% sure it hadn't happened yesterday evening.

I think the owner of the car reversed and scraped my car.

I am extremely angry.

Shall I contact the police when I get the reg?

I presume it's going to cost quite a bit, as it's inferno and not something easily sourced!

I have photos and will upload them when I can.

I estimate it will cost quite a bit, maybe £600?

Yea, check to see if the corsa is damaged, and has any of your paint on it, if so, take photos, take the reg and like said, report it.

Pretty crap that mind, mustn't have nice neighbours ?

The same thing happened to me a month or so ago... a car hit mine I knew who it was 100% but the problem is try and prove it! I could of knocked on the womans door who hit my car but she will only deny it so in the end I paid for it myself.

Just one of these bummers in life I am afraid that happens a lot

Similar thing happened to me, I got my window smashed by a group of c***ts - all because I was looking out for my girlfriend... I heard a window smash, jumped out of bed and see the person who did it and three other boys jump into a white vxr and race away from outside my house, police arrived 40 minutes after the incident - because there was no CCTV in the area and no other neighbour saw the white vxr pulling away, the police officer's words were "we will investigate it further - but as it stands it's your word against 4 others, and no one else saw the incident, you don't have much of a leg to stand on, it could've of been an attempted robbery and you startled them when you shouted out the window"

Considering my wallet, Headunit, iPod were all in clear view and were still in the car, plus I found the brick on my parcel shelf... Didn't sound like a robbery to me lol

In these sort of situations - just gotta pull your trousers up and pay the bill, knowing karma will come round and a pay a visit to the f**kers. Hope you manage to get evidence upon your neighbour buddy!

Edit: although your scenario is different as its a neighbour you suspect... Could make things more awkward

Hopefully. I am just so angry!

I have had the car just over 11 weeks!

How much would you say the repair will cost?

Check their car for damage and your paint on it.

If so report to police for leaving the scene!

This.
Legally they have 1 week (I think, might be less) to report the incident to their insurance company.
failure to do so can result in a proper bumming if it gets chased up.

Teach them the hard way.

I'd have a look around there car, take some pictures if there is orange on it. Then knock on their door.

They might just say yeh here's my insurance details, or they might deny it, in which case I'd get the police to come up. I'd definitely grab photos of their car before giving them chance to hide it though.

Sorry to hear this, can't help regards the bloke but cost wise, neighbour did this below

And it cost him £385 for sorting it due to blending into the door, whole rear quarter being sprayed and half of the rear bumper.

Just got it back an hour ago and they've done a good job. Even got a free touchup pot out of it

Yep especially if the play ignorant and say it never happened!

100% take the photos first else they will have time to remove the evidence (if they haven't already).

He was actually fine about it. I had pictures of his car first. And mine of course. Then rang his bell and he owned up to the whole thing and said he tried to contact me, by ringing the bell. But no one was in. I have his insurance details. Do I still need to contact the police? He agreed he did it, and even if he claims to his insurers he didn't I have a voice recording of him saying he did. He has a couple of scrapes on his car already. I am a lot calmer now though. And just glad he said it was him. What do I do next?

No just contact your insurance and explain what happened and give them his insurance and let them sort it .

Any chance he could do it out of insurance?

If you go through the ins, even though its not your fault, next years premium will go up!

As above I would be tempted to ask him to pay for the repairs at a garage of your choice. Going through the insurance will be an unwanted ballache.

Agree with trying not to involve your insurance. When my parked car was hit by an Iceland van and I wasn't in it, I lost 2 years of my NCB and my premium went up the following year even though Iceland paid for all the damage repairs.

  Ph1
Why would you lose your NCB if it wasn't your fault?

You haven't claimed, they have, ie: Your insurance claims from their insurance

Going back to the thread this happened to my Girlfriend a couple of months ago, next door neighbour reversing into her car. The guy who hit her paid for the costs although he had a say on which garage to use down to the price.

Its all based on trust tho. He could refuse to pay then your shafted. If it was me personally id want it done via the insurance then the jobs done by the book.

Yeah you claim from your insurance, then your insurance claims back from iceland, its a non fault claim and its iceland that would lose the NCB if they had any.

You or your insurance arent paying any money out, even then your insurance still goes up i believe

I just wanted it dome properly so everything is being done by the insurers thank god!
So I have contacted my insurers and they are sorting it all out. I'll get a call within 48 hours to arrange the repair and I'll get a courtesy car while the work is carried out. I was told that I won't lose any gained ncb as it's coming off the other insurers. He stated he was at fault. I have photos of his car and my car and also a voice recording of him stating he scraped my car. I think I am pretty covered.

Go and politely speak to the person who damaged your car. Be straight with them. The police will not be interested in this at all. If the person who hit your car is a decent person they will pay you for your car to be repaired. if they are not You will have to go through the small claims process backed up with photos and dated descriptions of the facts. Hopefully it won`t get to this stage mate. But tbh this ain`t really a police issue.

Same thing happened to me last year, neighbour with a yellow van scuffed the front of my car and knocked some trim off, once I photographed my car and his van I knocked on his door and confronted him, he wasn't aware that he had done anything (in all fairness it was a pretty light scrape) but yeah he admitted it and eventually arranged for someone to fix the damage which he paid for, didn't have to go near the insurance company :)
