Toastfrenzy's Tin Top, some say...........

Mallory do test day's every Wed am, 20 min sessions.

Did look at Mallory test days but Mallory charge £110 for 3hrs and £50 for 2nd driver, got a whole day for £139 and on a sat too so don't have to book time off either. I'm under the noise limit for the track day as well.

Bit unsure if we'll come down on Sunday or not...probably do an early start on Monday and get there for 6:30 ish...Can you save enough room for us next to youze two, put out your towels or something....

Yes but, no rules on overtaking etc, timing allowed, basically a free for all.

Will try, but we can't just say to somebody sorry you can't park there, cos you know what the answer will be.

Thought about the difference in test to track days and money (cheap isn't always best), if anything we'll know the track come the race so not having to learn the track come the day...big advantage\help I think.

Another reason we are not doing Coombe, we have both driven there but not flat out, so we would need to test there, more money.

Never having used a camera in a track car before here are two views from where I expect it'll sit.

First one is on top of the roll cage X in the middle of the two seats. I think this will give a better view but I'll need 50cm (long when open & laid flat) Jubilee clips to fix around the X in-fills.

The 2nd position is to the left of the X (pax side) easier to fit as the supplied clips fit around this tube but, raises the camera by around 4-5 cm's.

Due to the state of the car (must get a cover) and the dark barn couldn't really get a feel for the view...anyone care to say what view would give best results out on track?

I've no doubt that a sunstrip isn't required for Monday's race (seen the weather forcast!) but, what's the ideal depth that it should come down the windscreen or is it a case of sitting in and seeing what's best?

Haha very true about Monday ;) I got my vinyl guy to make me one 30cm deep and then I taped it in place and kept jumping in and out of the car to get it right, In the end it was 17cm deep in the middle of the windscreen and looks like this......

Hope that helps Pete :)

Combe is one of the best circuits in the county. The major annoyance is that testing is rarely the Friday before a race meet.

As a circuit it truly sorts the men from the boys, the circuit takes great pleasure in reminding competitors that the 15 foot of grass run off is still not doing much to slow cars down.

Shouldn't you already know that kind of info?

She's always complaing that it gets in her eyes....huh....

PMSL. Sunstrip geeks.....new CS low

You'll be the only one with out.....

Yes, though not a fan of your fake clio eye lashes though....having a bit of an identity crisis?

Had plans after work yesterday, scuppered after beer...so bit behind now...jobs that I was to have done after work yesterday (mainly cutting grass in 9 paddocks, pita) had to do this morning so still got car to sort this afternoon & tomorrow morning. Nothing major but If I don't go over it all before getting to Brands, things will be forgotten\not checked. Still might try and get down tomorrow pm if not in too much of a rush.

Been looking at VW T4 transporters to replace the Passat with...didn't know they returned 40mpg, also bit pricey. Better towing capacity and more room for stuff. Have to see how all fairs after the first couple races.

Sure is...

Sorted the Cup out, all that's left is to clean it up and get it back on the trailer and tools\wheels etc into Passat. Spent an hour doing driver changes, with helmets n gloves on and we've got it down to around 15 secs give or take (from the moment the car stops). We both know where hands should be so we don't get in each other's way, both pleased with this.
Hoping the weather stays like today....dry.

I got a new sunstrip made after I had to remove my last one for MOT - fitted it and jumped in the car to check - was about 4" too big hahaha - All I could see was road

So slid it back up a bit

Vw transporter does not return 40mpg!! Not even when empty and driven steady! They're darn good vans though, chap I know has an ex a AA van and really likes it, if he goes down coast in it, with family/surf stuff it and driven about 60average will be low 30s.

Using it as a race transporter once all kit on board and towing it at the correct speed (as fast as she will go coz has always, ur running late) I would expect to get mid-low 20s to gallon.

AA and RAC vans have different gearing I think, Jay would know, but I'm sure he has mentioned it before.

Got friends with them, fitted out as campers etc, they return 35-40 , may be the AA, RAC vans are geared differently as Tony says, also quick thread search brought this up T4 mpg

Gotta get out of track day mode.

I've not eaten for 36hrs in preparation, anyone who knows me can tell you unless I get 3 squares and extras a day, not nice to be around.....I keep reminding Sam it's her track, cars have to pass, no being nice, moving over indicating blar blar (blue flags excepted (and a white clio)), James is mine...lol.

Our VW's get 30-35mpg. Loaded up and tip the scales at 2800kgs. Mixed driving of motorway, town, twing and occastional idling for jump starts or on the hard shoulder. I get 24mpg out my Transit 2900kgs with same useage
