Clingfilming

Just so we're clear then, painting your wheels a different colour is the same as covering your car in masking tape to protect it from flies?

I clingfilmed a sandwich this morning.

tomorrow I'm going to paint one instead and see if it makes any difference to how well it travels

Comparable was the correct term Roy. You care what your car looks like. We care what ours look like.

The difference is you refurbed what were basically new wheels (madness to some perhaps?); we do what it takes to protect our paint work.

Clingfilm and tape to 'protect' the car WTF

its the same sort of people doing this that buy a new product and leave all the placstic on e.g phones computers

id rather enjoy it for what it is

Once I got to MK after 400 miles at 70+ mph what would I have used to clean the bugs off the front of the car?

Genuine question.

It's not comparable. One is a personal choice because you want your wheels a different colour. The other is the act of an irrational nut job. No matter how much you try and justify it, it's completely insane. Each to their own though lol.

Wrapping wheels in cling film would be comparable.

Nothing.

If anyone had a problem with them, you could always ask them how far they came from.

Besides, even with a full nest of wasps plasteed across the front of it, the FRP is a far better looking machine :)

When I leave for work in the morning I clingfilm my face.

well, I had only washed it a few mintues ago, last thing I want is for it to get dirty as I go about my daily business

Genuine question.

When I arrived at CS Saturday the majority (myself included) were using a detail spray of some description along with a micro fibre cloth to get rid of the few bugs that had given their lives despite my E-Mail. Did notice one person with a couple of buckets doing a proper clean.
Is such a cleaning method going to do any more damage than sticking tape and plastic film all over the front of your car?

But Roy, I am irrational. A lot of people are in their own little way.

I see swirls in my bathroom sink and think I need a new one. I used rainx on my shower so the water beads off it and I don't have to see lime scale deposits...

I have no qualms with people thinking I'm weird. I came to terms with that 8 years ago when I started detailing.

Yes. But thanks for playing...

Did you drive 450 miles?

Bugs don't just come off with detailing spray after being welded to the front of the car for hours. That's why companies developed bug/insect remover and apc.

Hmm maybe I should have washed my glasur coated car with apc once I had got to MK?

I 3M taped the windscreen...

Or should I used glass cleaner on the paintwork?

You're comparing washing your face to washing a car? So you wash once a week? Oooooft.

Not exactly JD, no. Daily washing for personal hygiene is FTW

But I dont spend 7 hours a week washing my car.

Lol at what this turned into. I can understand it, but if you rub the bugs hard enough with a MF they will come off.

That tip was free.

I didn't drive 450 miles my journey was just over 100. My question was a genuine one.
Would the tape/film not cause some degradation of your fine finish after baking onto the car during the four hour drive in the lovely sunshine?

It's was 9 hours but meh, it's low tack tape, pretty much made to leave no residue and nothing that a QD wouldn't remove.

The heavy glass cleaner struggled to clean the glass, there's no way a QD would remove them off the bumper or bonnet.

Fair enough. I found that on arrival mine cleaned off with ease after a light spray. Not quite so easy on the return journey. Well and truly welded on. May have something to do with the significantly higher impact speeds observed on the way home when not in a convoy. ;)
