If good MPG is your main criteria, then I'd avoid the 200 like the plague. I averaged around 24 with mostly stop start trips which is hard to swallow, especially when a 1*2 can see high 30's!

Tbh my Z4MC seems better on fuel than the latest generation of RS clios.... Which is shocking considering my 182 was great in that respect.
So in consideration get a Z4M will be nearly as quick as your old EVO and wont get school boy attention which my 182 seemed to attract

I love how people like to quote worst case figures for the 197/200 and compare them to extreme figures from a 172/182. PMSL at 50mpg. I got 99mpg the other day for a hundred yards. Does that count?
Anyone getting 50mpg from a 182 should sell it to someone who wants it. I ran around 27 in my 182 but that's because I didn't keep resetting it and driving like an MPG r****d, trying to impress people with the numbers. The 197/200 is of course heavier on fuel, because it's a heavier car, but drive it like the 50mpg freaks, and I bet you could get 40 from it with the same driving.

Agreed. How the hell anybody has the patience to squeeze 50mpg from a 182 I'll never know.
They don't. They reset it on the overrun at 50mph on a motorway sliproad and then quote the number as though anyone other than northerners care how much money they're saving, when in actual fact if they did get that mpg then they'd be better off driving an economical car, and therefore they're actually burning money because they'd get 100mpg from a 1.25 Fiesta driven in the same manner.

You seem a bit mad that not everyone likes to floor it on every motorway commute they do.
over 825 miles averaged 25mpg this is a mixture of motorway runs, NSL roads and town. I also worked it out rather then just rely on the trip computer and it was pretty accurate.
decided to find out what I use on my commute to work and I get about 32-28mpg depending on traffic. This is a mixture of NSL and town driving.
this is in a heavier 197 though. so can imagine the 200 could easily achieve similar.

40 MPG from a 200? I'd like to see that.
+1 The most ive had was 34mpg. That was ridiculously hard to maintain.
At the end of the day, you dont really buy these cars for their fuel economy.

mk3s are big heavy lumps even the DCi's arnt great on fuel in them!

I am getting between 24-26mpg...and I don't care; it's just too much fun!
If you want an RS and you're concerned by fuel .. buy a Ph1.
My Ph1 saw 40mpg easily, 45-50 when trying.
My Ph2's is between 30 & 35 (indicated) which isn't amazing as it's optimistic against my own mpg calculations. Also given my 300+BHP Scooby turbo wagon does ~25mpg without much effort even when there's a 7 year old hoodlum behind the wheel (me!).

The trip computer over reads by quite a bit in the 1*2, something to the tune of 10-15% on mine.
each tank of fuel in my 172 winds up around 35mpg, including london commuting and some long runs (Essex / Cambridge / Lincs).
If it was just motorway work at legal speeds, it easily breaks 40mpg, with cruise and climate engagedm no doubt I could improve on that but, well, may as well get a Clio Shopping then

This is a valid question so why do people on forums always retort with "I get 2mpg therefore I'm a driving god", it's neither clever nor helpful...
I have a scientific (full tank to full tank) average over the full 7200 miles covered in my 200 of nearly 34mpg (yes it's sad, but I like to know), the trip computer always reads a couple of mpg low.
I do not drive everywhere like a feather footed grandad in his slippers - I drive normally, it's a mixture of mostly A & B roads and Motorways with a small amount of stop start city driving.
I've seen up to 37mpg for parts and down to 25mpg for parts.

Doubtful! My Z4 gets between 16-18. 26ish on long runs. Renaultsports will return 25ish in town and 30+ on long runs. There not in the same league!

Whats wrong with someone wanting a fun quick hot hatch for the weekend blasts with the added benefit of getting decent returns on the mundane commute to work etc??
With the price of fuel these day's they're perfectly good traits to want in a car are they not?
