1145 Miles, 7 Days, 42.0 MPG - The Lakes

The sun's out again, which means only one thing - The Clio becomes a road trip pony and off I (we) go.

That time of year arrived that see's me and the GF heading off to the Lake District, and once again, you get the little picture write up.

An early start, 4:30 a.m. to be precise, and the Clio's boot was full and ready to go: (surprising what you can get in if you try).

After the 350 mile trek from one end of the country to the other, we arrived in the Lakes (greeted by sunshine to my amazement), and our lovely luxury lodge.

The view from the decking etc:

(No photos of inside the lodge at the moment, they're on the gf's camera).

So, after just chilling out on day one, day two arrived and we went out for a bit of a drive, finding some nice lakes, a waterfall and some nice views:

Day three, we decided to go to the beach (St. Bees to be precise):

Day four we travelled to Lake Windemere, where we hired a little motor boat and went chugging around

(Pics are on the gf's camera again)

However, on the way back we came across an awesome bit of road/scenery, Kirkstone Pass:

The next day, a couple of the gf's friend arrived, as they fancied a few days away, and we went and climbed a mountain with them: (some really amazing views from up here).

I went for a blast around a few more awesome roads too:

And lastly stopped off for a look over Ullswater:

My advice to anyone who wants to go to the Lakes, do it.

Some really amazing roads, great scenery and a must for RS owners.

The car was brilliant and only had one random morning where it wouldn't start. (Thanks to Tunst who nearly had to come out and tow me).

  Corsa Van. Meh.
Awesome. Look forward to going again and staying in the same place. Brilliant lodge's!!

I went for the superior lodge, which means a much larger lodge, with better furniture and a view.

There are four options:

Standard
Superior
VIP (Same as standard but with a hot tub)
Superior VIP (Same as superior with a hot tub).

Mine was 7 nights and was £460

I'll update the OP tomorrow.

Nice pictures, would love to a bit of a trip in my car, bit pointless in a 1.2 though.

Not at all, you don't have to (and often aren't) going anywhere near speeds a 1.2 would struggle at.

All looks lovely.

I do think however, that your gf would love you more if you had less sh1t wheels on your chariot ;)

Funnily enough the dopey tart doesn't want me to put the silver f1's on!

They are going on, within 1 month, I promise.

42MPG my arse.

Nice pics though.

Thanks,

RE:MPG

It was the average of the entire trip, honestly.

You have to remember that is two 350 motorway trips included.

Loved the lakes when I went last year, brilliant views and roads.

Agree with the 1.2 comment. I had so much fun with mine there, lowered and good tyres is all you need, regardless of power.

Good stuff Rob, I <3 the lakes. Last time I went was back when I had the ZS but only went for a day unfortunately - would love to go back for longer in the T!

Epic scenery and roads :approve:

Glad to hear you had a good time Rob. Kirkstone pass is ace, just a shame it was down to 10/20m visibility when I went and started to snow! Is Ullswater worth walking along? We stopped in the carpark with the little bridge etc and walked about 50m up the stream but didn't go as far as the main water. Might pop up there next tuesday again :)

Should have popped in on the way past!

And get those F1's on jesus!

Short and sweet write up there.. never mind ;) 42mpg ? Poor effort given 700 of those were at motorway speed (not autobahn speed :nono:)

Cheers mate, I've got the f1's already, in the garage with tyres, they're just not together yet.

One day this month I'll get it done.

Car looks good with the silly wheels on.

If you've got tyres, and wheels, go see t'woman's Dad. T'woman will probably do it for you herself !

Awesome pics Rob. I went to the Lakes in 2009, it is beautiful to say the least. Plenty of kwerky villages and lovely scenery.

I'd like to know where those lodges are too (and website please)

Where are those lodges at?! I was out and about on sunday up the lakes

The lodges are near the little village that is Greystoke, really nice and pretty location.

Yeah Kirkstone Pass is amazing, it was great to drive tbh, a little hairy at times, but great.

Ullswater is nice, it's quite difficult to walk along though, we just jumped out and wandered around a bit.

I wasn't in the mood to waffle, I apologise.

42MPG was great I thought, especially considering the abuse it got around the country roads, and ontop of that, no one drives at 70, lets be honest now...

Seriously on the tyre/wheel front? I'd love her/you forever - I really really want them on!!!

Does the place you stayed at have a website? Looks like some nice scenery and roads:)

The place is called Thanet Well Lodges, you can't book direct, just through the company "hoseasons"

As above mate.

More pics of the mrs too, i only have a couple of mental images ;)

LOL! You had a first hand experience, like gold dust that is!

My father would like a word with you. Kirkstone pass is not for shooting up and down in a "loud silver Clio with funny looking wheels".

LOL!

You should have said something you ghey! Didn't know it was this weekend you were up there. Kev (Gally) said it was soon :(
