16GB 3GS or iPhone 4?

My contract runs out this week , i have a 16mg 3GS ( still in good cond )

Do i keep the 3gs and go pay G?
Do i sell the 3gs and go for iphone 4?
Do i keep the 3gs as a spare?
Do i move from O2?

What are my best options?

Thanks

3 do some very good contracts on the iPhone 4 and they have very good network coverage so I'm told..... A 16gb 3gs is worth approx £216 cash in the shops, maybe a bit more on eBay, or its worth approx £270 if you trade it in against an iPhone 4 at £500, that way you can have an iPhone 4 for around £230 sim free and still go onto PAYG on a network of your choice.

I'll be in exactly the same position as you next month, personally I'm staying with O2 and going for the iP4.

One option would be to move to Tesco and get the iP4 on a 12 month contract, only downside is they want about £10,000* for the phone lol

*the actual figure is closer to £230 but, meh.....

Re: 16mg 3GS or iphone 4?

It's the same price everywhere, the handset price's are set by apple not the network operator, so no one is cheaper than anybody else, if you have a £40 a month contract for 24months I believe the handset is £109.
I sold my 32Gb white 3Gs for £320 and bought the iPhone 4 direct from apple for £499, then chucked a tesco mobile PAYG sim card in, for every 10 squid I put on, they give me 30

Re: 16mg 3GS or iphone 4?

My missues says i'm due a free upgrade ( from o2/car phone ) so i might be better to get rid of the 3gs for £220 notes?

Tesco are amazingly s**t! A lot of their staff are absolutely useless.

If you want cheap and cheerful I really recommend giffgaff. PAYG with a twist, £30 for a month gets you unlimited everything with (apparenlty) no fair use policy, I just paid £5 for a bolt on that lasts a month and gives me calls (to any network) for 2p a minute and texts for 1p. Top up with £10 and that's as good as 500 mins and 500 texts for £15 but if I don't use it then the credit remains obv. Only downside about using it with an iPhone is no visual voicemail, but Tesco don't have that either.

iPhone 4 without ANY shadow of doubt. The screen is amazing. It is so good that you really actually cannot perceive any pixels. Believe the hype. Use an iPhone 4 and the older models quickly seem very very s**t. I really need to get myself a 4, and quickly. I hate my 3GS now. It's s**t :(

Seeing as your contract is up and you can get £200+ for your 3GS, definitely go for the iPhone 4. It has it's problems but I don't really care.

£599 on the store now with 1 week delivery. £6.95 for a SIM chopper from Amazon.

Deal or no deal? Someone give me a reason not to?

Not necessarily. I've got a 16GB and it's almost full just with apps and photos/videos (although there are hardly any videos). Just depends on whether you want to use it as an iPod as well, I suppose.

32GB is unnecessary.

I would agree with this, based on the fact that my 32GB 3GS is largely empty besides apps and music. However, with the 4 having a better camera, better screen, and 720p video recording, I can see me using much more of the available space. Plus I'm not sure I could have the lesser model. It's not how I roll :(

Buy it then, you currently have the lesser model. Therefore you have been inferior since 24th June 8AM, pauper.

Nah I like to keep my old phones. Plus I'd hate to pass on something with such a SH1T screen.

(yes I was playing with a chum's 4 again last night)

You're like a woman shopping for shoes. If the shoes were essential and made by Apple.

You want a new phone. You have the money. It's a big upgrade. It was designed by Ive who is a God.

So stop being a robot making gay and buy one. Plus when you turn up on set next, Shia LaBeouf won't mock you for having a phone almost as old as you.

Forgot to say , i won't be using the phone as a ipod or vidieo camera ( i have a HD Flip for that ) so it's will be just a phone/emails + a few snaps. Probbs take the money and get the free upgrade i4

In daily use you forget about it and take it for granted. Going back to using something else is horrible.

The screen, the speed, the design, the features.. All better than the 3GS.

Don't get me wrong, it's better and I'm glad I went for it. But listening to some of the boys that are fans, you'd think it was a quantum leap forward.

Only thing I don't like is the shape, preferred the more ergonomic curved back, nicer to hold.

I do feel inferior rocking a 3GS lol, although that will change next month.

And the screen is epic on the 4, makes my 3GS look like an etch-a-sketch screen :(

Just ebay it. Someone paid over £200 for mine, and it was in pretty poor condition (and described as such).

It's not a big upgrade imo. It's better, but a massive upgrade, how??

NOT A MASSIVE UPGRADE?!
  1. Better quality HD screen
  2. Better camera
  3. Front facing camera
  4. Face-Time chat (and I don't give a crap what anybody says It's awesome) and can now be used via 3G ;)
  5. Faster that the 3Gs
  6. Second microphone to help reduce background noise when making calls
and the list goes on......
And all that about poor reception and dropping calls, what a load of crap, you have to grip the left hand corner really hard and really tight to even get the signal to go down SLOWLY, who the hell holds their phone like that??

If i didn't have an iphone i'd defo get a 4, but i wouldn't change from a 3GS to a 4, no point IMO.

I wouldn't use the first 5 things on he list above, and the signal thing, i tried loads in the birmingham apple store and they dropped signal when i held it.

Its a shop called CEX..... not sure if you have one near by, they give cash for phones but they pay more if you are trading against a new one from them..... I know for a fact they give £270 towards any phone or £216 cash on a 16gb 3Gs in white (white are more sought after apparently) my mate went in and asked the other day.

The camera isn't really a big deal for me. Face time etc? Who cares? Video calling was s**t a few years ago when 3G emerged. It's still s**t, just because it's apple doesn't make a difference.
It's slightly quicker, but not massively more than my 3GS. And the fact that the screen doesn't lock effectively when on a call is a massive negative.

Like I said, it's better. But some people do buy into the apple marketing machine on a massive scale.

"our new phone. Revolutionary and awesome."

12 months later
"our new phone. Revolutionary and awesome because we added some features to our last phone. Features like a front facing camera and video calling. Omg! (please don't point out that these features have been commonplace for yrs)."

The design, ui etc are awesome. No one does it better imo. But they were awesome on the 3GS. It's small improvements, to a great product. But only small.
