Drivers seat airbag went off...

  200 FF Storm Grey
Just want to know is there a way of turning the airbag light off without disabling all the airbags? I.e a wire to take out?

Do you mean the airbag went off in your face or just the light in the dash board?
If its the dash board have a look under your seat and you should see a small connector clip/box thing and a few wires. Try pushing the wires in a bit and wiggle everything around.

Very common problem on the clios because when the seats are pushed back and forth the connectors slip around a fair bit i belive.

No the actual side airbag went off mate, with it only being the side airbag I don't consider it to be hugely crucial so to save myself £250 i'd rather just knock the light off

Airbag computer needs to be reset/replaced. Then you need a resistor in the seat connector to trick the computer into thinking it's still connected.

yep the computer needs resetting....renault=expensive, apparently there is some german company that does it quite a bit cheaper.....

after that you'l need a resistor in the connector too, as atouba said

Well I've rang the bodyshop and told them to put a 4 ohm resistor on there so after that just get the computer reset and it'll be reet?

Did you bang a kerb or go through a pot hole at a fair rate?

This happened to Big Iain's 172 a few years back, he was driving along at town speeds and the drivers seat airbag deployed for no reason, he went to renault with the car, even though it was out of warranty by two years IIRC, they paid for new seat/cover, airbag, airbag computer, both front seat belts, pre pensioners and all the labour charges at his local dealer to get the car back to 100%.

Sh1t the bed, i'd never want that back!!

Cat c?

Nope, no structural damage what so ever, rod end snapped when the car slammed into the kerb and its sort of protected the subframe

Needs...

New Bumper
New Headlight
New Door
New Rear Quarter Panel
New Wing Mirror
Two new serie rossa alloys (only 4 week old :dead:)
New Bump Strip
New side repeator
Seat re-stitched
Possibly new glass
Possibly new tyre (only 4 week old)
Obviously all needs to be re-painted

Costing £2k excluding the alloys (thats another £350)

Plus £300 just to tow it away.

Lol how the hell?

Bit of a freak accident 2bh, coming round a corner down a country road, road is murder for having mud/horse sh1te on it, as i'm going round the corner the car has carried on by itself as if its on ice, so i've pulled it back in but then it's started snaking then eventually span, hit the kerb and flipped.

Wasn't speeding, doing about 40mph, very often do speed down that road but on that day I weren't, fine 1 minute then 10 seconds later car is on its side and I'm thinking where the fook did all that come from :dead:

On a more serious note, presume you are OK mate??

Yeh I'm fine thankfully mate, not a scratch or strained muscle, nobody else involved, clio did me proud with the way it held up

My dads garage use this particular bodyshop all the time, they do top work, had my corsa in there a few times and the guy has explained how if he didn't know my dad so well he would be charging more like 3.5-4 with the proper parts

Amazing how much you miss your car when you don't have it, prob be an emoitional moment when I get her back :( lol

Not going through insurance then so it doesn't get written off.

Well I've got an excess of £850 (a 20 yr old has to do these things :dapprove:) plus it's more my NCB that I couldn't live with loosing, think i'd prob become a manic depressive if I had to scoot around in another low powered car

Was genuinley just a freak accident though, don't believe it was any fault of my own so obviously meant to happen for some odd reason especially when you consider nobody else was involved, no property damaged and no structural damage to the car

Ah so you are paying for it yourself. It's 2k+ worth of parts easily from Renault.

You'll learn from this, we all do.

Love the title aswell.

Well he's buying second hand parts where he can with regards to the head light, mirror and that, he's assured me he will only use as new condition parts so if it saves me another £500 I'm happy

Sounds like what your doing makes sense as you could of ended up with a cat d and more expensive insurance premiums.

Not really, as the person who buys this car next is technically buying an unregistered catd/write off which in my eyes is stingy as fvck.

Care to explain why that is so???

Cat d is when the car is a write off as you probably know, the car is worth in excess of 6k, the repairs are way below that so would not be considered a right off plus there is no strucutal damage, the body shop has asked me whether or not I want a quick fix job which would of cost half the amount which I could sell on the week after and mug somebody off.

I've not gone down that route and the car is being repaired to new standard, if there was any structual damage what so ever I wouldn't take the car back and have insurance sort it. Hardly going to drive a car I consider unsafe or a tempory job am I.

Impossible, fitting a quarter to a car is very invassive and will never perform..ie corrosion protection ect... to the same standard as factory.

If you decide not to tell anyone it's had major work carried out and i'm sorry this is major work then that's up to you.

Id still get the airbag sorted properly if I were you. You never know what could happen tomorrow, plus its abit s**t on the next owner eventually...

I'm pretty sure you have to replace the airbag computer which is underneath the ash tray.

I plan to get the airbag sorted eventually i'm just talking in terms of short-term as i'll struggle to get the money together as it is
