can i achieve 14.38 sec @ 97.89 mph ?

Gotta be a dodgy at the fly calculation, what was the atw figure?

Couldnt tell you mate. You really have to take figures with a pinch of salt imo. Imo if your car is either side of the book figures by a couple of bhp you know its running fine. Thats what i use a rolling road for anyway :)

will be hard getting mid 14s on those mods, im running cat cams 428s, decat, orbisoud race(172), panel filter and a re-map, i managed 1 14.5 at the pod and it was an almost perfect start, mine is a 154bhp at the wheels so work it out to what you like at the fly, next will be stripping out the rear maybe knock 0.5 off the time fingers crossed

It is another case of good and bad engines tbh....I got a 14.17 @ 97.5 with just the rear seats out, an open IK with no air feed, decat and exhaust and an Rsport ECU..probably about 1000miles on the clock too. There have been a few totally standard 172's managing to get 14.6's but also some with similar mods to mine struggling to get into 14's. Obviously different days get different results as well.

Which shows the figures where b****cks?!

Tbh you could drag the same car and get different results. I have set off with minimal spin and got x time...then on the next run I bogged down and got a better time with no missed gears on either run

The thing with drag racing is ( what no ones yet mentioned ) it makes a big difference with the tyres your using and the strip your racing at itself.

If your running a decent set ( not semi slicks or other various junk ive seen people using ) im talking Mickey Thompsons or Hoosiers and at the correct pressure you will drastically reduce your 0 - 60 foot ( not mph ) time. This is essential as your launch is the key to a fast time. You need to do a proper burn out to get the tyres up to heat - DONT just quickly spin the wheels and pull up to the line. You need to drop the clutch in 1st at high revs and burn the nuts off them - till theres white smoke filling the strip. Then reverse and do it again.

Theres several strips in the UK - Most common are Santa Pod, Shakespeare county raceway and York. York dragstrip is run on a budget and imo is an absolute shithole of a track. If you want to break records stay clear. Shakespeare county raceway is pretty good but Santa Pod is the best. At the Pod they glue the track and if you get the right driver behind the wheel of a well set up 172 Clio with the mods you have got, high 13's will be on the cards.

Dont be scared of breaking your car - give it death and then some. It will always mend.

Ive ran a 13.9 on a 1998 clio stripped to a bare shell running a 172 engine with cams, decat and Rsport ECU, matched inlets. With a Digimax progressive controller, Nitrous oxide and 50hp jets i ran a 13.4 qtr at 106 ( Only managed a 13.5 @ 106 in my Clio V6 with a 75 bhp jet !! )

Key to a good strip car is good set of racing slicks, camber of front wheels set up correctly and tyre pressures correct, powerful engine and a driver that knows his own car.

Its all well and good comparing times but at the end of the day everybody has a different driving/launching technique.

The only way you can really compare cars and mods is to use the same driver throughout which obviously isnt possible

The one thing Ive noticed in my standard 172 is that it doesnt like 1st gear as much as the rest of them, compared with my saxo vts which used to love being launched off the line in 1st

Obviously different engines etc but I would hate to come up against one on the strip as it would be a close race, one which the clio technically should win hands down

I think with your mods that you currently have and the correct launch, if you manage a 14.5 with a fully loaded car then you're doing well.....very well infact,

The best 172 ive seen down at york has only put on a 14.8

  172 - 249bhp @ the wheels
From a 15.6 you will be VERY lucky to even get into the 14's. 86mph terminal isn't great tbh. A freakishly quick stock RS will be doing over 90mph.

It all depends on your start... it's crucial. Apart from that there is no other skill (apart from changing gear) imo.

And your start will depend on how much you want to abuse your car.

Launching at 4500rpm can be devastating, but to get in the 14's that is what you'll want to be doing!

Ooo this is an old thread of mine, I now own a 182. I wonder what I can achieve in this, this year. ;) maby can get that '14.38 sec @ 97.89 mph' lol.

P.s - I actually didn't say. I actually got 15.3 at 90mph (iirc, wa a while ago now) that weekend. A tad off ;) lol.

PSJ.
