Common fault on 172/182 - suspension

  Peddled device
Has anyone ever found a cure to the knocking/grating/creaking noise from the O/S/F suspension on the 172/182 RS clios?

Mine went into Reno three times but its always come back.

isnt it the top mounts? iirc there is a cure for it aswell

I fitted the Top Strut Washers to mine and I've not heard the knocking noise since, saying that though I did fit my exhaust not long after so the noise from that could be masking the knocking noise I suppose.

does this only happen when first pulling off. not all the time. i sometimes get a creak noise from the suspension but only when i pull on and its quick creak sound. any1 know what this is and is it anything to be worried about?

i tried them top mount washers and they made the knocking worse for me due to my coilovers set quite firm so i took them out and was fed up with the slight gap between the body and mount so i filed the bit on the mounts down so when i tightend them um the mount just touched the body therefore holding it all together properly and my gay knocking is solved but now ive got to sort my exhaust heat shield rattling out

if its on full lock, the top mount catches the cars suspension turret. We looked at my sisters, and you could see where it was rubbing. We took a grinding tool to it, and removed a few mm. Done!

A bit like mine...and this is after the Reno modification.

Can sometimes feel like the wheels about to fall off but the car was serviced at Birchdown about 1.5k ago and they didn't fine anything wrong. Can handles as it should though...

This is what Renault do. I have a set of instructions, given to me by a Renault employee, telling you how to cure the knock. Supposedly not for Joe Public's eyes....

that's what we do too. No need for washers, which i've seen cause a strut to be very loose

Mine is doing the same so had the top strut mountings changed but it still does it? so do these washers realy work and where do you get them from?

still waiting for k-tec to send the solid mounts.... I am curious of the result..

Ive just had ktec solid mounts fitted, the guy who fitted them said the hole on the drivers side had been grinded out already, but on full lock it still creaks... Any ideas of a solution? Also got Sportlines fitted & havent had it tracked/balanced yet, if that helps?

Here's something......the guy's at Birchdown checked my car a few months ago to see if anything was wrong (due to the noises). They found nothing.

Two weeks ago l changed my springs to Eibach Sportlines ,-30mm, (done at Birchdown) and now there's no noises at all.

A cure maybe?

I got some creaking noises the other way around lol
Quiet as a mouse with standard springs, some squeaking on the bumps with the Eibach Sportlines - love them though :)

I noticed that the rubber washers sit above the turrets now rather than on them.Maybe this adjustment helps?

I fitted the k-tec solid ones and it definitely cured the noise, the turn in seems to be sharper, also have the impression it cured a little bit the understeer. a good upgrade and they look good
