Glad i've read this thread. I never would have thought a vx would be better than a clio

VX220 non turbo still in a different league on track!

i beg to differ tbh.

iv drove gunners on the road and was quite impressedwith it tbh, was a bit wet tho, and i had the very nervous (hiding behind hands and screaming type nervous) owner sat in the pass seat.

altho it still wasnt as quick as the willy over the same road, given a little more time to acclimatise with it im sure i could get it closer.

have passed a vx220 on track too. the only 1 iv seen.

  clio sport 182
i had it off with a vx220 a while back when my 182 was standard, whooped my ass he did and that was a straight line all tho he didnt have the minerals to push it any more like i was but without a doubt a quicka car

Disagree, any williams i have drove felt like it was going to fall over in each corner. Horrible to drive.

A decent VX driver should be able to leave a decent driver in a williams

Willys are pisch imo...over hyped! Didn't live up to my expectation! Hence why it got punted.

  Inferno 182 w/ Recaros ;)
LOL at people saying a Williams is faster than a VX. The driver can't have been going for it otherwise it would kill a Williams.

  williams and trophy
lol..iv driven both..over the same road...the willy was quicker. i have a pass, and the owner of the vx to prove it lol

think the vids kinda show wot they can actually do....3 diff williams'

the vx s seem to pull like valver pace to me tbh. not overly quick but not exactly shy. was a non turbo version tho.

lmao @ the willy haters ;)

  Focus RS
i own both, and would say round the track the vx220 na would eat standard clio 182, but on a country road the clio would have it!

So are we saying a clio would be an equal opponent in the real world lol?

Theres a vx220 turbo that appears sometimes near where i live, good god its quick!

  Clio 172 Cup
Slightly off topic but..
one of my workmates has just bought a vxt. came to work in it an took me for a blast (mainly twisty country lanes & national nearby). Fook me they are quick and very flat through the corners.
I was going to show him what the cup would do but my fire had definitely been p**sed on.

Another point:

He clearly thinks that slamming a car makes it handle better. Renault don't spend millions on chassis engineering for nothing. Stiff ride does not equal good handling. Grip alone does not make good handling. A slammed Clio may be better on a track, but on a real road I would bet a months wages that a standard or lightly lowered model would spank your arse into the kitty litter.

The VX220/Elise handles better because Lotus know what they are doing, and have done for a long time. Ever noticed how you don't see a 'slammed' VX220? Because it would knacker it up. Simple.
well if you 'slammed' the vx220 it would be scraping off the floor, of course lowering a car makes it better handling imo, since lowering mine i'v certainly felt the difference

LOL does that mean you dont feel as much body roll coming off your drive! From what you say you dont seem to know what you are talking about at all. You seem very young, and you obviously bum your 172 very hard. I hate lowered cars, unless done properly they are so bumpy and crash all over the place, as said before renault no what they are doing. You dont spend that much on suspension then add £90 lowing springs to improve it!?! Dont think so.

my beast would rape a clio, give me enough time to get home shower and put the kettle on lol ( but it is the Turbo)

coming from a 182 Cup is a massive learning curve.....I thought the Cup was quick!!!

I get into this and think I am Lewis Hamilton everytime.....( waits for the comments)

I am now playing with Aston's, Porsches, Evo's and scoobys and anything else that gets in my way..something I would not of dreamed of with a Clio.......however the faster you go the more it hurts if things go wrong!!!

I don't even humour Clio's, Astra VXR's or anything sub 250 BHP anymore.....even a Seat Leon Cupra tried it at the lights....I only have to use half throttle...and my car is totally standard. ( APART FROM MILTEK)

I also get the badge snobbery comment every day....."should of bought a Lotus" from people that know nothing about motoring, like JAMBO182.
People compare it to say Vectras, or Astras because of the badge...poor knowledge just leads to embarrassment IMHO.

I spent 2 weeks asking for advice with 15K sat in my hand....and for the money I think I got the right car....speedlines, hard roof, full miltek system, all recalls covered and recent cambelt service.

Yesterday had a Pro alloy Rad and Mintex pads fitted.
Next up will be a set of Nitrons and a Stage 2 Remap ( 250BHP).
Summer/Track Yoko A048's.

Some say ( I look a tit in it) but .....prefer looking a Fast tit than than a slow c**k.

thats a cracking example! The turbo is again in a different league, I humped a wrx sti in my chipped Vxt once, and couldn't stop laughing!

My comments were in no way to slate a clio or the owners.

It is just a totally different car - requiring different skills.
The VXT is hugely tuneable for sensible money too.
If anyone is at the Southend meet I will take you out.

  Turbos.
I'm not really sure what you're trying to point out... other than gloating about scalps.

Track days are hardly an indication of how fast a car is, as both driving skill and track experience as well as the car itself will produce different results.

As i said earlier in the thread, take someone who has been in hot hatches all their lives and put them in a VX220 and it will take a good while for them to learn how the car works, and trust its abilities. Get used to them and they would be quicker than a Clio Sport around any given track, but not by a huge amount.

  williams and trophy
i have been in hot hatches pretty much all my driving life, and as stated previously, given more time in the vx i could probably get it somewhere near the williams in terms of a-b

the vids show just how capable the clios are, ok so its not exactly a 172/182 etc, but arent these cars supposed to be better than a williams??

track days are a fantastic indication of how quick a car is, as is drag racing. yes driving skill and track knowledge count in some respects, but even a numpty can go quick in a straight line. 2 cars accelerating at the same time, both flat out, in a straight line will indicate which is faster. or who has the bigger balls. but then if u dont have the balls to drive said car why buy it?

All respects imo!! I've done thousands of laps of knockhill and used to be able to keep up with most things in sub standard cars.

Jon, I've been in the car with you...yes your a good driver but in a race situation you'd be humped! racecraft is nothing like trackdays! Nout to do it having huge balls...Risk and reward seldom go hand in hand! I spk from experience LOL

lol...see ..id say im an average driver tbh. maybe have slightly bigger balls/less sense than some but bout it. u think im good u want to see my son lol.

there is no race craft needed on a trackday, as thats wot it is, not a race. im sure pretty much evry person that iv been on a trackday with would drive diffrently if it was a race. so stickin ur car up the inside whilst outbraking ur opponant in a race has nothing to do with having bigger balls?

risk n reward seldom go hand in hand??? they there evry day mate, without risk there is no reward

;)

tbf renault spend a fortune developing a happy medium susspension not full on race focussed susspension

and you all have to remember they're only fecking cars get a grip

I don't hate Clio Williams, I think they're bloody good cars. But to say that the standard VX220 is the same pace as a Williams is just crazy. Everything about the VX from the chassis to the lack of weight means it will out perform a Williams all over. The same with any hatchbacks.

Yes the turbo is faster, but the standard cars still do 0-60 in 5.5 which I'd imagine is faster than a Williams.

Yes please bud, i've been in a stage 2'd one & a stage 4'd one, I want to see what an almost standard ones like.

I'm getting one next.

I've driven an S1 K-series Elise, and it makes my 182 feel like a trifle. Since the VX is essentially the same chassis (albeit with added understeer) I can safely say it will tear ANY Clio a new one, slammed, coilovered, or otherwise. You can put any badge on it you like, but it won't change the outcome. How 'dya like those apples?

my mate went to buy a non turbo vx220 - it was not impressive as it was only as fast as my 172cup. i expected more from a 2.2 lump with only 930kg....engine was silent, while my cup was roaring like a beast. Its the hardest car to get in & out of.

so basically for givin my opinion on a car i get slated, then you get k##bs like mcbunny givin it the biggin
Your opinion is uninformed. A renault driver, criticising the kudos of the Vauxhall badge? I'm amazed you can operate a computer, let alone muster the brain power to type (semi) readable sentences.
