desperate for insurance

  S4 Avant
ive spent all day ringing round for insurance, rung adrian flux, the AA, hastings direct, HIC, hyperformance, performance direct... twice. but the cheapest quote i got was £4,000. who in there right mind would pay £4,000 for insurance?!

anyone else been in the same position? i dont want to have to leave my 182 in the garage till im 21. Anymore companies i can ring round?

  182
Why so high? Clearly you're under 21, but points/accidents? Did you buy the car before checking the insurance?

  S4 Avant
i looked on moneysupermarket for insurace, but ive realised now they give really underestimated quotes. im 19 im afraid:eek: and not got any claims or points

  integra Dc5
Try greenlight they are really cheap. Just had a quote off them for an Escort Cosworth and was only £525 not bad for a 24yr old with 4 years no claims, was getting quotes of £2000 from everyone else!

last resort will be to put the car in dads name and pay for his insurance, and me to be a named driver, but its a bit dodgy that way. really should have checked out the insurance before i bought, but you know, impulse buying and that...

Try admaral, put both your pairents on as NAMED drivers.

Im 20, and a lot of insurance companies say not untill your 21, But im paying 1250 for my 182. . . admeral ftw

i pay £1370 with bell, with 2 named drivers. i was 20 when i took the policy out by the way with 1 yrs ncb!

greenlight/churchill etc wouldnt insure me til im 21 on the 182 cos of it being group 16 so dont bother with them!

adrian flux wanted about 3 grand, jokers!

try elephant and admiral too, even though theyre part of the same company, can sometimes get a better quote!

the fact im a student midwife reduced the price aswell for some reason

oooh daz, i need 2 ask u about servicing!

how much did u say u paid for your 24k service?! cos mine needs it and its 1st MOT on 28th jan :( renault preston quoted me £280 for the service!!!

haha, that might have something to do with it. i have the worst combination of things from an insurance perspective, a modified performance car, being 19, and male. got a quote from admiral for 4,500, in other words "we dont want to insure you". going to give bell another ring now.

oh dear, modified?! i suggest un-modding it or i think you will really struggle to get insured!

lol and £50 for the MOT as it needs its first MOT on the 28th :( i had to sit there for 1hr and a half a few weeks ago when they looked at my central locking problem, and then they decided to keep it overnight so i got a pimpin twingo for the night lol

  S4 Avant
yeah, might have to un mod it. it wasnt me who did it though, i bought the car as a cat c write off with all the mods on, but thats a different story...

this is turning into a nightmare... i just want to be able to drive my car legally

  182
Yeah, you failed to mention that. What mods? Seems like you're going all out for the highest quote you can get!! Drop the mods if possible, hike your xs, try quotes with and without a parent on it (can make it higher or lower, depends on the company). Are you a student? Try putting your part time job as occupation instead, again can make a difference. If the car isnt essential for a daily commute, consider storing it somewhere out of town, grandparents garage or something, again postcode can make a huge difference.

yep postcode CAN make a huge difference, i got the 182 thinking i was off to Durham where the insurance was a mere £700, ended up staying in lancashire (a good area of blackburn aswell!!) where i'm having to pay £1370 :( and that's only for 10 months cover with a £1,000 excess... lol. i'm getting rid in august i think, you may not think it now but the novelty will wear off, theyre not worth group 16 prices believe me!

yeah... seems that way, the tosser who crashed it put loads of stuff from k-tec on it, like vallences, exhaust, alloys and induction kit... god knows if its got a re map or anything like that underneath. my post code is in the lowest risk area, but i think looking at everyone elses price for insurance, im going to have to store the clio in the garage till im 20

my MOT is due on the 26th :( it's gay. I hate cars they cost too much. Twingo GT!

What you getting next if you're getting rid of the 182?
