172 cup vs focus st

  172 cup
hi, my mate has just bought a 07 plate focus st and I was wondering how quick is it compared to my 172 cup?

0-60 figures seem pretty close but in reality would I be able to keep up with it?

I know its putting out 220bhp but it must weigh a fair bit compared to the cup!

cheers for any replies!

in reality having raced a focus st in a std cup, there was nothing in it this was i the wet and we both wheel span all the way into third but seriously like you say they weigh a ton so 220 + a tank = not rapid nice cars though just over rated a bit i think in the dry side by side there would be nothing in it i woulnt have though however i'v heard over a ton the st pulls slighly harder

like above... anything from 90mph over... he's kick your ass straight line

but anything up to that, including cornering etc.... you'd be all over him. Not a track day monster the ST... cup is

After the ton the st would piss al over a std 172 cup , 182 ,Trophy, but most situations theres always road onditions to take into account so really you would keep up. if its pub talk and a straight road for miles hes quicker simple as!

I raced a black one when i first got my FF.. It beat me but not by far, I think seeing as you have a Cup, it will be close up to about 80-100..

he'd pip ya

Wouldn't know?

I was pushing my mate as I said - I was behind him couldnt exactly get side by side as it was too dangerous at the time:rasp:

But he definately wasn't going anywere although don't think I'd off got past him either;)

Honestly the STs are fast, i know mines a FF 172 but when i drive STs they seem sooooo much faster!

All about road conditions etc tho

I've beaten 2 of the f*****s from standing start from traffic lights and through a few turns. Intrestigly enough it was on the same road on the way to work.

Turbo diesels 'feel' fast. Torque my friend ;). I've had a few blatts up to a ton against them (in my old cup) Nip and tuck tbh......

st is quicker but not immensely , ive owned both, remap and bigger intercooler and the st's make serious power for little money

I went from an eibached 172 ff to a eibached and chipped ST (pushing 270 bhp and loads of torques) and the difference was night and day in a straight line.

Not much in it in the bends, but the Clio was more agile and more fun.

Selling my ST as i've ordered a 197 Cup.
Straight line speed gets ever so tiresome.

ST is a great motorway cruiser, but not really a hot hatch as it doesn't have the right handling excitement.

I was in an 06 ST the other week, the tit went for an overtake Id of never gone for in my 172FF.

He narrowly made it but it didnt seem to chuck me back in my seat.

Id of said my 172 would have made it easily, but he drove like a r****d.

You'd be suprised how much a difference following someone makes aerodynamically.

I would bet if you went on a 3 lane road, and left the middle lane between you, it would be different.

I'm not saying a Focus would trounce a Clio. But it wouldn't lose let's put it that way.

I love the use of words on this informative forum. The likes of " kick your ass" and " piss all over it" .....Brilliant! I have some experience and im telling you now, standard versus standard any conditions there will be very little in it! No pissing going on. He will have the legs after 90-100 but hardly a slaying. its to close to call, and will no doubt come down to the driver. The ST has obviously more tuning potential, but we talking standard vs standard. Its not a fuc*ing supercar!!

There'd be sweet FA in it. He'd probably have to back off when the 15mpg when driven properly made him cry.

Thank you.

I had a play with an st3(?) bright orange thing, seemed ok till 80 then he clearly had a fair bit more power, that was in the old pink bus 193bhp, which was quicker than any cup i ever came accross.

I have a good play with one and it wasn't until silly speeds that he opened a gap, much to my amusement and his annoyance. In gear, they will take a Cup but off the line there is little difference. The orange ST's are just comedy.
