K850i question

  Nippy white cup
Really pleased with my new phone but one thing is bugging me a little. When I take a picture and try to use is as a background image on the phone the quality is poor. On my k800 I could set as background and maximise and the quality was great, but on this one it is like when you look at your pics and it takes a second to clean the image up.

It sets the background straight away whereas on my 800 it would take a few secs to clean the pic before using it on the screen

Am I doing something wrong or is it just a problem that I have to put up with

Cheers

Chris

It has to be an exact size to display perfectly.

just take the dimentions from a built in image and resize to those.

Cheers Tom. Pretty poor though as my last 2 SE phones just zoomed into the image and it was clear as owt! So much for progress lol

Im sure it will be sorted in future firmware, i have reported the bug to the Dev team for you.

D'you know if shutter problems are firmware or hardware related? Mine has failed to open a couple of times already :S

Again its a known issue dude, they are working on it.
Stupid design anyway.

Bugs
- Phone can crash whilst in standby mode, requiring a hard reboot (taking the battery out)
- Alarms only produce three beeps on some phones rather than play the selected ringtone.
- Play/Pause and FF/RW controls on HPM-82 do not work
- Phone can crash when using HPM-82
- Some Video playback is out of sync with the sound
- Corruption of the filing system can occur affecting photos, applications etc
- USB photo transfer can lead to duplicated pictures / removal of other pictures present on the phone
- Video is of lower quality than the K800
- Occasional second or so delay between the vibration of an incomming text/call and screen illumination.
- Audiobook functionaility cannot be accessed
- When you connect the phone via the usb cable, You cant see the ringtone folder
- Phone doesnt support some Mp4 files and doesnt support some jpeg photos.
- The flash doesn't always sync with the image capture, leaving dark photos in night conditions.
- On some phones the shutter ocasionally fails to open
- Not all symbols are possible to enter in the email client settings, e.g. not allowing you from adding a : for gmail addresses.
- The zoom buttons both zoom into a picture and change the volume if you are listening to music whilst browsing pictures.
- On some phones, adding a birthday to a contact does not give you a chance to add it to the Calendar.

I must admit i dont really see the need for it. Never used to have them on early cameraphones. Although the bulky lens cover on the K800i (along with the joystick) was something that really irritated me about the phone, shame as other than that it was spot on.

Yeah I can't do that, it's annoying! I've had a few dark pictures as well when the flash didn't go, but otherwise it seems ok.

It's a shame the screen completely powers down as well but ah well. I've never, ever had the 'perfect' phone, but this is still the best so far.

when the screen powers down in camera mode, the only button that seems to wake it back up again is the end call key on the far right... which closes the camera application and returns you to the wallpaper. Annoying.

Any other time, pressing any key will wake the phone up.

^^ yes, or the volume key on the side gives you the clock and any message icons. It's just a bit annoying that you don't know if the phone's on or off at a glance.

im used to it going off from my old W810i... and during normal operation I can press any button on the phone to carry on where i left off...

however when in camera mode the only button that turns the screen back on is the "end all" button which also returns me to the desktop when i still want to be using the camera!

a small, but annoying glitch!

I want one (i'm due an up grade now) Am I best off waiting till they sort out all of the problems with them ??

i think SE rushed the k850 out to compeat withthe n95s camera, as SE always try for camera superiority.
the firmware is usually glitch for the first 2 or 3 releases but they come prety quike so check wontan or SEUS regularity to check for firmware upgrades. Also your branding might not be helping things, if you are orange or voda they heavily mess withthe phones OS and mess things up orange especially. in the w850 they removed keay features, and even t-mibile resticted alot of features and settings, even the button lay out is different on some net work.
the picture thing is that they keep a low resolution for quick browsing then if you pause it resizes to match the screen if they are high res pics.

if you want check if problems are hard or soft ware, or want to check network locks or firmware go into the service menu, bu pressing the following form the standby screen.
*( i always put a start infromt stops me going int o shortcuts)

thats a cool trick.

what are the "text labels" used for in that menu? just seems to be a load of error names.

its all the words the phoes displays as part of the operating system if you know what i mean, if your a hacker you can get in their and change them to somthing else word wise.
but you can do all sorts to SE phones, like change the font and if youhave a walkman phone you can put coolflash menues, liek the psp style menues on the phones and stuff because they have "flash lite1.1" so the W phones can play .swf files, but the k series do not have flash so cant have the funky menus or play swfs.
you can even patch the audio drivers to make the loudspeaker louder as the k is pretty quiet.
but one wrong line in the xml re writing and you have a nice expensive paper weight lol or you could get the white screen of doom, if an SE flashes white and off, whit, off, try using the SE update asap, or its Fuct.
its handy to know as early firmware on new phones are notorius for chrashing like that.

apart from them 2 problems very happy with phone, just needa bigger memory card now as photo's take up loads of room.

also ive noticed if you go onto the main screen with all the icons to select, and hold down the up or down buttons it scrolls throught he icons and makes a strange vibrating feeling?

I get mine today. Sounds like there's a few f**k ups with it. Any ideas if with orange if it'll be blue or green?

thats down to the theme you have selected. Let me guess that you're using the blue/black one with the falling blocks as the desktop? Its supposed to vibrate quickly on that theme when navigating the main menu.

One guy at work has it on Orange and his is green. Mine and my Dads on o2 and voda are bothe blue.

Correct some themes have haptic feedback.

I have a green one from Orange, it looks so much better than the blue as tom said the blue looks cheap, with the silver surrond.

I have had a few issues with the time delay from taking a picture and then deleting it, it takes 5 secs to refresh to the last picture taken. Also when I transfer data via blue tooth it freezes and restarts, but its fine with the BT car kit I have.

The Nokia N93 i had was just cr ap it would always freeze and sometimes taking the battery out and putting it back in wouldn't fix the problem, lucky it was only a work phone they had that back within 2 months when I told them that it was a piece a rubbish and would'nt let me do what a phone should. Oh and the reception was awful in central london on 3 but my SE was fine on 3.

Replacement covers are available already and as for bugs.... thats what firmware updates are for! Ordered my upgrade today and just received tracking number to arrive by tomorrow!!! Yay!

seems quite buggy for a basic phone! sort it out SE!!

i wouldn't say that?

what issues have you had?

My bro has one and the shutter mechanism has failed on the camera so he can't take pics. Other than that i've not experienced any bugs/problems.

To be honest i expected an update last week, but there will be one before mid december.

A200 (the OS the k850i uses) is pretty new so theres bound to be bugs.
