In my opinion (and this is mine, nobody elses) you buy a Cup because you can't afford the decent ones. I don't think anyone can seriously argue that it's a raw, faster, more exciting experience. I can have a raw, fast and exciting experience in mine - while I have my better lights to see where I'm going and my gorgeous seats which I could sleep in! And my driver aids for when I'm caught out...

I love it when people mention the seats...apart from the lumber I'm pretty sure they are the same bar the fabric...people say the difference on the road is not much but the same can be said about the seats or the lights etc. I don't know about anyone else but I can see fine with my normal lights and the seats are just somewhere to put my ass.

If you have two identical powered cars, with two identical drivers but one car was lighter( by a good sized person) then it makes sense that this would be quicker. Obviously you get the variance of engines but I have seen consistantly quick 1/4 mile times from cups than 172.....no skill involved (or very little) so it just leaves it to the cars perfomance

Seriously thanks for the entertainment. Pedants at their best. Seriously i, with hardly any knowledge on the matter can see that clearly the Cup is a slightly stripped version aimed at people who want a "rawer", more involving and indeed faster drive- even if only minutely so. If it wasnt faster there really would be no point in it. Speed is not debatable official figures show that.

The debate could be however wether the relatively small gain in speed is worth the loss in "goodies" some people care some people dont. I think advice is good imposing views on others is sad.

Still amusing lol... Ohh yeh nd i would want a non-Cup one because i only jus learnt to drive and so the aids are a MUST! And plus honestly if you look at the figures its not an immense difference is it? Or maybe you really care about being that extra half a second faster than the next guy.

Fact of the matter is neither car has a huge amount of traction up to 60mph, and when you're doing more than that AND racing you can be sure to be eating someone elses cooking for a long time - you're easy target because you aren't likely to stab or rape the officer booking you...

I've been using car forums for years now and it's the same old story.

I do find this forum a f**king good laugh....there are good people on here who do have a good sense of humour. Sometimes though you have to take the rough with the smooth...there's always going to be the odd person your just not going to get on with.

Manufacturer facts and figures mean nothing on a public road though? We're in the real world and you'll never hit the book time for 0-60, you'll never get the top speed and you'll not notice in a 2litre car, an extra person. Take Ford's last Focus ST - the 170. It's a fairly quick car, and was for a while the fastest Focus - but the TDCi trounced it on the motorway because despite it being lighter, more focused on higher performance, the TDCi had bags of torque. So the ST was overshadowed by a car that's numbers were worse?

On the track, I fully agree that a small difference can make a win out of second place, but I don't drive my car anything close to hard enough to notice this difference because:

I will be on a public road and as such there may/will be other people about that you may/will kill if you push too hard. The line is drawn when too hard becomes a loss of control, and I honestly believe from driving both unless you push your car right up to that limit, the miniscule difference will be just that - the difference between driving with the wind and driving into it.

However I'm not going to go any further into this argument. If we were talking about a couple of hundred kilos then yes, I'd agree that's a big difference, but this is double figures and only twice the difference between having a full tank of fuel and being in the red.

If you like your toys like I do and want to feel a little safer in the winter, get a FF.

If your not worried about the toys, buy a Cup and your get a slightly quicker car for your money and it will excel on the track.

TBH, my mrs drives my car unfortunately sometimes, so I'm am happy that it has ABS and ESP. So there small chance it will come back in one piece in the winter. lol

Well i like the cup more than fullfat ones because it looks meaner has better wheels and handles quite a bit better! But i suppose its down to personal preference. Dont need ABS as the cups have progressive braking as used on track and is sound! as for all the toys and leather seats, ive had toys and leather seats before and the leather looks tatty after a bit and when them toys go wrong its expensive!! Also the cup was a limited edition. Dont know why everyones getting so defensive, who cares what model our clios are! We are all clio fans so lets just chill and take the pi*s out of other cars like saxos and CTRs! Oh and the CUP is faster! LOL :rasp:

Maybe if you didn't come accross as such a strap on you wouldn't have got jumped on. I dont own a Cup or 172 FF and given the choice I'd get the Cup for the simple fact it's a better colour, nicer wheels, looks the part basically. Not only that but as proven time and time again they are quicker. This is not a case for debate, in the real world pushing pedals is all you do and the Cup responds faster and goes quicker. They will be fairly similar, IF 172 FF's actually made 172bhp, but they rarely best 165bhp on most RR's, Cup's tend to make over 172bhp on RR days I have been on, so that and the 14-15 stone difference you'd have to be retarded not to notice the difference... so the point I'm trying to make is that you're a r****d :clown: Think of the in gear difference, torque and power to weight is in the Cups favour, put your foot down and it pulls away, pretty simple.

As for people not being able to do the book speeds get real, these are motor journo's, while they are more likely better drivers than us they dont spend as much time in one car, I've seen stock Cup's get into the 5's for 0-60 runs with stock engines and the rear bench out... still though, don't leave the forum just because you have been shown up as a fool, we need forum gimps, they provide a comedy element based on sheer ignorance that only comes along every so often... tell the world by all means though, I'll turn onto ITV for news at 10 for the anouncement that Clio Sporters are a bunch of 'spotty pricks' :lolup:
