TARC production class advice please

  Clio 172 Merc ML55
Good afternoon all

I'm currently in the process of building a production spec car for the tricolore with the aim of joining in sometime during 2016 (work/fund dependant)

I've been reading the current regs and was wondering just how far the interior can be gutted or how much has to remain? And whether certain systems can be removed altogether such as Airbags? I know regs state that car has to be to MOT standard, this is where it all gets a bit 'fuzzy' to me as there are many interpretations so I thought maybe the guys already in the series would be the best port of call

Apologies if this has already been covered

Thanks in advance

Adam

I'm pretty sure you'd need to remove airbags as a matter of course for competition use.

As far as other things go, if it doesn't say they have to stay. Then they can go.

Airbags can go no problem. As it is clearly a proper racecar and not a toy one, the MOT tester can take a lot more into consideration. Mine has all airbags and seat belts removed, non airbag steering wheel, cage, harness and race seat. You will have to make sure all lights work as they should though, such as SRS light goes out etc.

That was my thinking, but it's easier to check now to be sure
Correct and be careful with interpretting the rules. In some cases, just because it doesn't say you can't, doesn't mean you can.
Also whilst most things will stay the same, there is a new set of regs currently being finalised so check things with @Tony Hunter before doing anything drastic.

I'm currently at a stage where everything is stripped out, bar the dashboard (and everything attached to it) ie theres no plastics, headliner, seats, carpet etc etc

I have a seat and harness to go in, and will be ordering a cage by the end of the month.

My plan (rules dependant) was to remove airbag system completely and tidy up wiring so there aren't wires left everywhere unattached, more so because I'm fussy than anything else, but I assume the srs light will still have to illuminate and then go out as per normal?

Production class, is as it say's, basically as it comes from the factory, but with all the silly heavy bits removed.
I would also say, remove the steering lock, even though msa regs say, that if a car is driven to the circuit it can stay.

Production Plus.. is different again, nearly class A, but without t he engine mods.

Ok thanks Tony, production plus, this is new for 2016 onwards? Don't suppose anything has been drafted out regarding regs yet

Thanks

The production regs are pretty similar to the mr2 regs so I'm fairly confident in saying you can remove almost all the interior, just keep the dash. But remember you need door cards of some form, not necessarily the originals, but certainly some form of covering.

Talk to tony and pop and see a few of the cars at the track. No-one will mind you having a look round theirs.

I had hoped to have been at the last two race meetings but the Mrs ended up getting her way instead, apparently getting married was more important?!, she's a quick learner though :)

I think it's nearly there interior wise (apart from door cards), I've finally got the wiring loom sorted just need to tidy it up behind the dash and get the cage in
