The White ph1 172 track car. Epic content!

Wants some Pirrelli P600's for marham? Theyre not new but got enough tread to last the day.

Look something like this in 195/50 15

So today had a nice little road trip planned collecting tyres. Norwich - Snetterton - Stowmarket - Norwich. Which actually was some pretty good roads for driving tbh! Sun was shining and was almost at Snetterton when i went to select first gear to pull out, and it had gone again :( Little bit pee'd off, but took this chance as Matt advised against taking the box out as when i took it to him it had started working again after only a few miles of not working. But never mind, just used 2nd for pulling away for the rest of the trip. Got to Snetterton collected a set of Parada Spec-2's that were supposed to only have 3mm of tread when it was more like 4-5mm so was very happy with those. Then headed over to dmallett's in Stowmarket to collect the Pirilli P600's. Got there and one of his mates had a Cigarette lighter that i have been needing so was happy about that, i can now plug the sat nav in! lol.

After that headed home, absolutly loving my car and the sheer power, pulled out at about 15mph in second to over take some push bikes, floored it and managed to spin up the A048's! So happy with the power this is making. Overtaking on the dreaded A140 between Stowmarket and Norwich was a pleasure. Really want to get out and drive the car more and more now.

So the plan for the wheels is: OZ f1's are going Satin black, i'm sorry but i just love the colour co-ordination of the car at the moment, i think it's perfect. Getting wrapped in the P600's for Marham. Then after that the Parada Spec-2's will be my new road wheels, saving the 2118's and A048's for track days also meaning i can wear them down to slicks lol.

So as mentioned above i lost 1st gear again yesterday. So started today by taking the gear linkage off and seeing if it would go into first whilst under the car, and still no luck. So i think it's safe to say the gearbox has had it. I took this chance at TDF by not having Matt do anything to it, as it had started working again, and just assumed it to be linkage problem, thought it wasn't worth me paying him to pull it out to find nothing wrong with it.

Luckily i've been in touch with Adeyspec on here who has a mint gearbox for sale at a reasonable price so in the middle of organizing that. Will probably keep my old box for what it's worth and eventually get the reconditioned.

So the plan is to fit the new box next weekend, with a new OEM clutch kit. But I'm in 2 minds as to if i should get my Flywheel lightened, Matt from TDF advised against it as it could fail, and i don't doubt him. But alot of people on here seem to speak of doing it and not heard a single problem, so if anyone has any feedback of this would be appreciated.

I've never removed the gearbox in the car, so done a search on here, on the best way and people seem to say it can either come out by lowering the sub frame, or come out through the top of the engine bay. I think I'm going to take it out through the top, as i have the battery removed and with ITB's no air box in the way, so seems the quickest route for me!

I've also never removed clutch/flywheel i'm assuming it's just un bolt the old one and put the new one on?

Is there any specialist tools i need? Will anything need Torquing? As i don't have a Torque wrech.

Any advise appreciated, want to try and do as much myself as i can.

Glad you are enjoying the car mate, shame to hear about the gearbox, but it seems you have it all in hand, you will have to take me for a few laps at marham.

Thanks Dom, your more than welcome to come out in it any time, likewise to anyone :) As you said i really do have it all in hand, gearbox has been sourced, contacted West's for a new clutch and most importantly today after a lovely weatherspoons sunday dinner i stripped the engine bay down and got the engine out! I'm really not doing things by half's on this car, after speaking to a few experienced people i've found it would be just as easy to change the gearbox and fit a new clutch by taking the engine right out. This would also mean i could really tart the engine bay up :)

Got pictures on the iphone as i done everything. Started by getting my tools at the ready, borrowed the neighboors beast of an engine crane once again!

Then bumper off, jacked up onto axle stands and wheels off.

Then started unplugging all the loom, removed my ITB's and everything else holding the engine in!

Finally after 2 and a half hours the 212.5bhp lump was out :)

Whilst up on the crane i got the old box off and i was done.

So all in all 3 hours work, my first time taking the engine out my self, big thanks to DannyR for being at the end of the phone when i got stuck

So while i'm waiting for the clutch and box, the bay will be cleaned, engine will be painted in VHT paint :)

Nice early day from work today, was home at 3:30, so cracked on with the car.

First up was too mask the engine up and give a good clean ready for paint. The plan was alternator setup siver, head upwards silver, sump and bottom end black. So sprayed all the silver bits silver, masked over them, and sprayed the remainder black :)

To say i'm happy with the results is an understatement, engine looks brand new. Also sprayed up a few other goodies, the battery tray and gearbox bracket are powder coated, had them a while, you just can't see them.

Gave the engine bay a clean, not a great deal i could do with it, but alot better than it was.

Need to clean under the arch's and under the bonnet it's self, but i came in as i was hungry :)

Clutch, gearbox has all been ordered and payed for now and should be on there way, just need some power steering fluid and gearbox oil now!

Ok so i will be putting a new clutch on whilst the engine is out (common sense in my eyes as the old was has nearly had it anyway) I've bought a new genuine kit from Wests Renault, is there anything i should know before i do this, i have never done a clutch before, is it just a case of unbolt the old one, replace with the new one?

Any advise appreciated. Did do a search but couldn't find anything, would text DannyR, but i think he's getting a little annoyed being my helpline for clio's :p

Lol I'm not!

I think there are correct torque settings and correct order but we just usually make sure there fairly tight and do it as you would a wheel so opposite sides get tightened one after another.

as danny said, you'll also need an aligning tool to centre the clutch plate, a 1/2 inch extension bar with some tape round it to take up the slack should be sufficent if you've not got one.

  Trafic 140dci
Thanks for the help, Don't have an alignment tool, someone said to me i can do it by eye? how does the half inch extension bar with tape round it work? I've never done a clutch before, so it's all a learning curve for me :)

Cheers Dan, gearbox should be here Friday night, i'm hoping to have the clutch tomorrow so i can get that on tomorrow evening, then put the gearbox on friday evening and it will all be ready to drop in Saturday morning. Alot of if's there though lol.

Oh btw... Hello Mr Postman bringing me goodies ;)

The hoses i wasn't going to do for a while, but the engine is out now, so would be silly not to.

The extension replicates the gearbox input shaft, same way as an alignment tool. The tape takes up any slack in the clutch plate hole so it centralizes the extension so the extensions then passes into the flywheel, same as the input shaft has to, if the holes aren't aligned your gearbox won't go back on as the shaft can't locate. Kinda hard to explain.

Also when taking old clutch off, loosen them all off equally, same as you would a head, before you take the bolts out

I understand now, thank you :)

You can use end of a screw driver too!

Im about to purchase some hoses too ;)
Will have a go once the clutch get's here see what works best :)

Ohhh shiney bit's any colour in particular??

Just make sure the friction plate is equal distance spaced to the cover as you tighten the bolts. I never use alignment tool or screwdrivers/extension bars etc

Chances are you'll get an allignment tool in with the clutch kit lewis, you do with most kits
