K TEC hmmm not happy

I bought the 172 as your prob sick of hearing but its fitted with a ktec full system.

The system will not stop rattling off the rear axle. I have paid 4 different garages and powerflow themselves to aline the exhaust porperly.

It still rattling and ktec claim "its the garage, therer not doing it porperly and we never have any problems" on top of that i cannot get the tailpipe clean, its kinda like a black rust. There fix was use autosol so out i went and bought it and guess what, didnt work

I thought there warrenty was good but to be honest im just getting fobbed off

surely 5 garages cant get it wrong including a exhaust specialist

Where are you based? If you are near enough to pay K-Tec a visit I would advise it, they seem to be pretty good with warranties.

Try using rubber rings (off some sort), held in with zip ties, that fit in the rear exhaust mount and stop the whole exhaust from moving.

Try a bit of emmery cloth on the tailpipe to polish it up.

No they are normally really good, i buy all my parts from them and have never had a problem, but today i got my new exhaust delivered, and it looked like it has just been thrown off a cliff - there are dents, heavy marks on it, i think its been a a car before, and the welding is awful - but i guess these things happen bit dissapointing though

They are normally very good with warranties, they replaced the backbox on Fubar's exhaust free of charge, and he didn't buy it, it was on the car when he got it.

I dont really know what you're expecting them to do if you are too far away to travel to them? They should of course advise all they can on how it should be fitted but other than that they cant do much else without getting their hands on the car surely?

No, they are not a bad company to buy from, I have had my problems though! With my full system kept falling down, no garages could fix it but took it to k-tec and they did it like that! Its their product after all. Also I just got stainless steel cleaner from wilkos and it cleans all the crap off-some bits do require a lot of scrubbing. Take a trip back to k-yec dude.

bad design, had this with mine had to cable tie bits of rubber to stop the horrendous rattling noise, it never sat straight, got rid now tho

i got a twin 3" full system from them on my 1.4, the bracket fell off the actual back box, i could see all the cotton like material inside it, had to take it to m8s garage to sort it, i thought when he was welding it it mite burn the stuff inside the box, but it was fine in the end, couldnt be bothered to tell k-tec. i not to buy an exhaust from em in the futher.

They do source out a lot of their work to other brands and IIRC some are made by Tiger (s**t) and others such as the Stealth are made by Janspeed (good).

I have a Stealth system and am very happy with the quality and fit but it is almost a copy of the OE system so it should fit properly.

I would contact them to see if they can help out.....most decent companies should honour the guarantee.

Loopy, please do not think we are trying to "fob you off". From what you have told me you purchased the car with the exhaust already on it and you have told me yourself that it is rattling on the rear axle. We have never had a problem with the fitment of our exhausts on the 172 which is what makes me think the system is just not fitted correctly. As I also told you the tailpipe should clean up with some Autosol as it has obviously not been cleaned much. If you we able to get the back box to me I will have the tailpipe polished and sent back to you at no cost to your self. If you are able to bring the car down I will have the exhaust refitted for you, again free of charge. Bearing in mind you did not actually buy the exhaust from us I cannot say fairer than that.

Lee, please call me reference your exhaust. I have no idea why it has arrived to you in the state it has and all I can do at the moment is apologise. As you said in your e-mail you could bring the exhaust back and if you wanted to do this I will happily change it for one that is obviously in better condition and fit it for free to your car.

16v Jon, the welding on our exhausts is just as good, if not better, than many other companies out these. We change exhausts all the time and I would be happy to compare the quality of our systems to others available elsewhere. We would not put a lifetime guarantee on them if they were not well made. I will be the first to admit that over the last 4 years we have had to change a few exhaust parts under warrantee and we have never refused any warrantee claim. Considering the amount of systems we have sold it is less the 1% that we have ever had any problems with.

If anyone else knows of anyone having a problem with an exhaust, or any other part purchased from us, please ask them to call us as we are not interested in just selling parts and not having anymore to do with the customer. If there is a problem we are here to sort it out.

I have bought quite a few things of K-tec and never had one problem. They are a sound bunch of guys and as David has stated above if something has gone wrong, ring them up & discuss the problem and they will sort it out.

You are one of few thats had a problem out of 100's of exhausts send/sold. Which to me suggests the fitting. I see ur predicament bein in newcastle, K-tec is a fair trip But play about with the system a bit. Mine was a bit of a pain to get rite but once sorted it neva rattled once or drooped etc...

ah the k-tec exhaust quality bites back

lots of people on here (well used to be on here) had issues with their systems, the black rust is an imperfection on the tailpipe, k-tec will just grind it down like they did with my old system,
it does come back

in my experience k-tec/tiger exhausts are in fact, very poor quality and don't fit very well either

On the lifetime warranty, I know for example magnex on do that for the 1st owner only.

Don't think you can say fairer than the above. Renault certainly wouldnt be as helpful. It would be worth the trip for me just to have it right.

Bryan, your exhaust is the only one to date that I have personally seen with the tarnished tailpipe (and it was not rust). If I remeber you sold it to someone elso on here and when his car was down with us we removed the rear silencer, polished the tailpipe and re-fitted it for him free of charge.

Like I have said before if this was a major problem for you we would have changed it. As it happened it just needed a good clean.

that's correct david, i sold it to rob fenn, although you done the work to the tailpipe, the imperfection came back, hence my experiences are not good, of the 3 i've seen, only 1 has looked an average product

it fitted ok on mine, but needed constant adjustment as it dropped regularly, no matter how tight it all was, the fitment to robs car was done outside my back garden by a mate, as i had to play cricket at the time, otherwise i would have done it myself, which may have explained the poor fitting on his car

it was never a major problem, as i never planned to keep it, it replaced a poor OE exhaust with something that may have lasted a little longer

living in stoke its not a quick drive down so i'll just have to put blind faith in you when i order my front strut brace.

Yeh i imagine the couriers do chuck it about a lot, thats why i thought it would of been packaged a lot better, but these things happen, im not slating the company at all, ive always had great service for them, thats why i intend to continue using them

only problem ive had was clear side repeaters for a clio that were for a megane and didnt fit without modding them with a stanley, but thats minor.

k-tec relocation kit with induction kit was spot on

Bit mad that really, is the car changing ownership going to make the exhaust rust and fall off, good get out of jail card is that
