Does not scale via component my TV would only show DVD's via component at 576P no matter what I set it to.

Where as via vga cable TV reports them running at 1280 x 720 @ 60hz.

what is hdmi? what will this console do that my premium wont (im just playing on a phillips 24" flat screen (the tv is still huge, its just the screen thats flat) wont?

Its just a different connection so you can have HD sound and video in one small connection. Digital connection as well so less chance of it getting any interference from anything and is higher in bandwidth. Not really needed though.
