Hate when someone asks what car do you have?

  RB Clio 182
Renaultsport is what porsche is to Ferrari.

Basically the poor mans porsche as the porsche is the poor mans ferrari. But as we all know the renault is better bang for buck than the porsche as the porsche is the Ferrari.

I basically ignore practically all cars unless they are Renaultsport, Porsche or Ferrari lol

Pissed up?

I hate it too when I have to say it's a 345 bhp turbo clio track car not your big standard and they still don't take me seriously , most people's knowledge is shite unless you say m car or amg they don't appreciate it unfortuantly

That's what I love about it. At work a few people think my cars a standard clio with chavvy parts stuck on. Then my boss saw me drive off from him when he tried it on. The next day he kept going on about how much he loved it.

What cars your boss got Dan?

I don't hate it as such, but just know that people think "it's just a Clio", so hardly bother trying to explain that it's not your normal Clio

If they've got half an idea of cars I'll say it's a Renault Sport which generally gets a nod of approval or some interest

But being 19 most of my mates love the fact it goes 'Bwarrrrppppp' (Decated and straight through)

Got to admit everyone I've given a lift to has been impressed with how nippy it is when you do give it some, since it's only a chavved up Clio after all

Try driving an Abarth punto. "It's just a punto made by fiat". I don't bite to it anymore because that's what they want. The p1sstaking doesn't stop there but I won't go into that!!

At my new place I was asked by someone what I drove, I said "just a clio"

Then the young lad in the room corrected me and said "it's not just a clio, it's the are esse. Two hundred brake. Fast as f**k"

To which the other guy bemusedly asked "oh, is it? Goes like stink then?"

I just bowed out of the conversation as they discussed my car lol.

Those any good? I like the look of them. The abarth evo or whatever their called are nice
They are really good imo. Handle really well, pretty quick. Doesn't feel much slower than my 172, but is a bit. Very well specced and great build quality (for just a fiat). Easily tuned with a remap or tuning box.

Being more of the... 'mature' persuasion, I get some bemused looks (and looks of pity) when people ask me what I drive, and I reply, "A Clio." They instantly think I'm an older bloke on benefits who doesn't have two pennies to rub together. :tonguewink: This is usually followed by suggestions for 'bigger and better' cars that are cheap enough to buy and run for "Clio-level" money. I just smile inwardly and leave them to it.

I also like the fact you can hide your car-boreness behind saying you own a "Clio". Like my friend owns an Imprezza (the wrong one) and owning that being a young guy IMO attracts the "boy racer yob" label to anyone who isn't interested in cars. He also doesn't help his case by acting like one.

Although I have had comments on why I have no interior, bright orange wheels etc in "just a Clio", and chavvy kids have looked down on it as it isn't a 182 or a Cup.....its a Ph1 which is far superior to anything Ph2!

Why does someone's opinion of your car matter so much? If I had a 350hp Clio and someone asked me what car I had, I'd just say "a Clio".

the look i get when i turn up to work with the clio is "what's he doing in that piece oh sh##e" the car parks full of audi's/golfs etc ha

I walk to work so nobody knows what I drive, but I see what they drive. So when any one asks and I say a clio, I think that they think ( because of my mature years and what they drive) 15 plate 1.1, so I feel compelled to say 15 year old 172 and point out that's the bhp.

In the works car park both of my cars have been noticed.

Track days are often mentioned about the Clio. The Escort is just liked by most car people there :).

I can imagine the conversations when you pull up in the Clio :
'You can do better than that mate'
'I also have a Porsche'
'Yeah of course you do mate'.

Honestly. As a 'contract manager' I feel the customers believe they're paying too much when they hear/see I have a Porsche. Even though it only cost £12k I get the distinct impression they believe it to be a £50k car (it's 10 years old!)

I still remember taking the V6 TT to a wedding not long after I got it, my mates genuinely thought I had come in to money.

Same guys that financed 1.2 Corsas for 10k+ etc.

I remember when I had a 1991 944 Turbo people thought I was loaded.

OK it did look better IMO than a stock 944 Turbo but still! With the Stag I had many people say it was lovely, although my response was generally a moan about it .

Last few posts have been getting at this point, it definitely works the other way around too.

People who say they "drive a BMW/Audi A3/Golf" with a smug look usually turns out to be a tiny engine "SE" spec from 1999. That or it's a rented '15 plate base model.

"A clio" is my response. I never mention its a sport, etc. Even when booking into a garage.

At least when your turn up in a modified one they get the impression you know a little bit about cars and cant mug you off as much. Thats what i like to think anyway.

Lol I do that! I asked a garage for a quote for a spring change on a clio... They quoted £100.

I almost paid them upfront lol! They would not have been happy!

u wot m8?

I think he's on about the 'clio are esse 197/200 ff cup sport f1 r27 RenaultSport RS full fat plus cup' misnomers that they (and a lot of other forums) like to use to make Clios sound more interesting.
