Re: Road/Track 172

I'm going to be working away a lot over the next couple of months, but if I can get it mapped and sorted in time I would like to get out in March to the open pit day.
im just going to be using itfor trackdays but may try a round of SLS later in the year if the car qualifies.

Re: Road/Track 172

Not sure if I should keep the speedlines white or do them black , I've ordered some new blue stickers as they will need a refurb either way.

Ive now now got the car back on its wheels and gave it it's first wash in 6 months , just need to sort out the shifter as having problems with reverse but apart from that it's ready for mapping.

Re: Road/Track 172

Yes that's what I was thinking plus I don't like the idea of trying to keep white wheels clean with track pads. I'm running 16mm spacers on the front and 15 on the rear but might have to remove the fronts now I've got the roll centre hubs.

Got out my gauges fitted where the clock use to be so in line of sight.

Finished my engine bay with a new heat shield , but noticed the rad is now leaking ( must of caught it while re fitting the bumper ) so have ordered a fiat punto one.

Re: Road/Track 172

It's a sparco rear brace for an escort cosworth, I had it lying for years so just drilled and tapped the top mounts as it was a perfect length.

Re: Road/Track 172

Interesting, hopefully the single bolts at the ends will be strong enough. Ktec have a front brace now that works with the ktec top mounts, something I will be looking into soon (fyi)

Re: Road/Track 172

Not justnow Gaz as I need to check to see what the ideal offset is when running these hubs, it was fine before but I think it's now 5mm wider per side.

Re: Road/Track 172

Mapping went well today peak power we seen was 230.1 bhp ,but after pulling a little timing for safety we ended up with 228.9 bhp and 176.9 ftlb . We tried upping the rev limit to 7800 rpm but made no more power so capped it at 7500 since I'm still on standard rods.

Re: Road/Track 172

Last time it made 214 on the same rollers, god i hate NA tuning

Ive not got the 4th booked but I will be up for it , is it a Knockhill or private day ? Im off to Houston on sunday until the 1st, so might be tight for getting the alignment done and have a small oil leak to sort.

Re: Road/Track 172

That's still a fairly nice improvement for high comp pistons and some head work, if you went with 422's or 423's you might have seen more peak figures but I bet it will go well as is.

I you can make it, go for it, its with Track Scotland. The places will sell out fairly soon, if you want an email address for Adam or Fee to book then let me know. I'll have my new cup down so it would be good to compare them.

Re: Road/Track 172

Im out for the 1st then but think there is a OP day on the 8 th of March. I really need to get some tyres for the speed lines aswell, but do have some track tyres on my other wheels that will last a day.

Re: Road/Track 172

In the mid range we went safe with timing which has caused a dip in the torque , on the road this isn't nearly as bad as the graph would suggest . I actually wanted it left like this just now to aid traction out of corners until I get a diff.

Re: Road/Track 172

Yeh more happy that the engine looks to be performing as it should as it's the first high comp build I have done, I'm not overly fussed about the top line figures but I'm happy with the gains when overlaid on my old graph.

Re: Road/Track 172

First track day of the year is booked for this weekend so last push to get the car ready.
Alignment done today after fitting the new hubs, and finally got to try the car out on a bumpy back road :)

Also finished the refurb of 4 of my 2118's the other two require small repairs first. The stickers were off ebay and not the best fit .

Re: Road/Track 172

Thanks a lot it has kind of spiralled from what was meant to be a cheap track toy but it is a lot of fun.
After a short drive today I think it might get even more expensive soon as now really needs a diff, will try it at the weekend with track wheels on but with Yoko Pradas its wheels spinning badly.

Looks great, really liking 2118s on them now.

Fully ready to go?

Why have you just went for 1degree of camber?

Re: Road/Track 172

I still have rear pads to change and could really do with changing the fluid aswell.
I have some part worn 048's on my pro race 2's and pradas on my 1.2's but might see if I can get some track tyres for the 2118 before the weekend.
The 1 degree was the before readings I had just set the front end up by eye, it now has 2.4 degrees on the front. I do have some 1 degree shims that I was going to fit the rear but never bothered yet.

So it does, was looking at rear reading duuh!

What fluid are you going to use?

048s will be ideal if we get good weather again!

Re: Road/Track 172

neil a remember to lube and clean the rose joints and uniballs mate! The salt will cause pretty much instant damage otherwise unfortunately.
How did you find the car on your blast handling wise? Also, looks to have a lot of rake on the picture above? Or is it the angle of the floor?

Re: Road/Track 172

The above pic was taken on the angled floor coming out of the garage.
I've gave the joints a spray when I got home but was thinking of fitting rubber boots and grease packing them, like I did to all the rose joints on my cosworth and Porsche ?
I noticed that the car seemed to turn in better but to be honest the road I was on was too bumpy for a low car.
