Crashed the clio :(

Ok so was driving up the road went round a corner to meet a car stopped in the middle of the road chatting to someone on the pavement. I went to brake but just locked up went straight up the back of them. the road was very wet and was raining fairly hard.

I rang insurance and my excess is going to be £650 now is it worth paying it or just buying the bits and doing it myself?

I drove it have after and there seems to be a banging noise and vibrations through the steering wheel when turning and also there is like a whiring (sp)/ scraping noise comming from the from passengers side anybody have any ideas what it could be?

Ive only got the 1 Picture at the moment this is the front end damage.

The picture does not make the damge look too bad its alot worse in the flesh. The bonnet is folded up and the metal bar that is behind the number plate is bent both headlights seem to be abit twisted and the passengers wing is cracked.

Nasty :(

Id be pulling the front end off to asses the damage, then go from there!

Go through insurance mate.

That's a write off. Would cost you way more to repair and chances are there will be subframe / suspension damage.

If i start pulling it all aprt though if there seems to be alot of damage will i still be able to claim?

Surely the person you hit has some damage ? They're going to want to get it done through insurance so they get a courtesy car and an insurance approved / all above board, warranted repair ?

If by some miracle they don't .. then get it done yourself. Just hope that they don't come back with a claim in a few months time...

£650 is a very high excess on a £2k car though ! Ouch.

Good luck :dapprove:

that will no doubt be a write off.. mine was on the very limit and wasn't as damaged as that.. iirc it was just over 2.5k of damage on mine and all that was bust was.. bonnet, slam panel, bumper, air con condensor and apparently cross member but when i had the car without the front end on it was perfectly straight but with yours id be inclined to say it will be damaged

Oh dear. I did something similar in an old escort. Cue the old VW camper van and a rope to pull the front bar back into position. Wouldn't advise that though. I'd pay the excess and either have the car repaired properly, as it could end up being steering rack, suspension parts, etc etc. Get a quote tomorrow and see what the cost would be to have it repaired maybe. I'm rambling now.

This

Whole new front end by the looks of it, plus slam panel, possibly rad, suspension maybe if you're getting vibrations, scraping could be the arch lining rubbing on the tyres?

Call me stupid but i dont really understand they will be claiming on my insurance and they will be getting the repairs done free but i dont really want to be spending £650 on my excess

its high because it is 150 compulsory 250 voluntary and i have to pay an extra 250 because im a young driver

As stated above that will be insurance write off, it will most likely cost more than £650 to put it write yourself, the slam panel and enforcer bar is like £130 on its own for the part, the old one needs cutting out, then the new one welding in properly. Sadly unless the metal work is done to a very very high standard and your a skilled welder, i wouldnt even bother as the panel alignment will most likely still be all over the place and unsafe if you do it yourself.

Sorry to see this....

they will deduct the excess off the overall value payment so for e.g valued at 2k youd get 1350

Trade in price from £670.00 to £1,150.00
Private sale price from £1,060.00 to £1,560.00

This is yours but using the free valuation

And you've just proven why by crashing.

That said, bad luck, but its a write off for sure.

It'll be a write off I'm afraid. Cat C at a guess. You should be able to buy it back to fix/strip if you wish.

Sorry to hear about your crash mate. These things happen though. Go through insurance, suck up the excess and move on.

i dont see why you wouldnt go through the insurance as someone mentioned above, surely the guy you hit has damage too thats going to need repaired? probably lucky if you get a £600 payout once your excess is deducted when they write that off!

It will probably be fine to be honest.

Not justifying not declaring modifications as you should for what it costs plus for the peace of mind.

probs will get away with it tbh as the car will go in to a motor repair place and theyl compile a list of what needs repairing and then the engineer will go get a report so yeah hel probs not even see it tbf
