is it me or are they absoloutly rapid? wats the spec of them? heard they can give civic type r's a run for there money!

  Monaco Ph2 172
They aren't THAT fast really, but the sheer pleasure and satisfaction of the driving experience makes them a legend! :)

Most of the F7R engines make more than 150bhp as standard - it's not an urban myth, go see some strapped to a rolling road!

My old Williams 2 made 156bhp totally standard bar a K&N open IK on a day where the quickest 172 made 172bhp with mods. There are a fair few strong engined ones and some absolute freaks, but it was faster than my 172 is with Omex, decat, 2.5" cat back, filter, aircon removed, aluminium bonnet... It would also dead level my friends CTR to aout 120-130 before the Civic just pissed off, once it had breathing mods and cams it would beat it easily from 0-limiter. Very under rated cars on here by the deluded "newer is faster" brigade.

  BMW E46 330i Touring
Quick cars, not had much experience against them but Tucks' was quicker than my old ph1 in a sprint.

  titanic killer
\Great cars even thou they have 150bhp they are lighter so not much in it against 172s etc imo

Chasing ctr's ?? Me thinks some ones lying a bit.

Played with a few years ago in a boggo valver (1.8 16v) level pegged all the time pretty much from standing up to national, occasionally one would be a car length in front, nothing more though.

- forgot ao add, to put things into perspective off the line my old car was pretty equal to mk1 172, up to about 50 or so where the 172 would pull away.

Against a mk2 172 I could only get about three car lenghts behind.

The one thing i hate about people saying "its as fast as...." Or "it would beat a...." and then go on and list how its modified to the hilt!

When i compare cars i talk about them out the factory with no mods!

"That Fiat Uno's as fast as a 350z" *

*With a twin turbo supra conversion....

In one !!!! Gets on my t*ts too !!!

It's also sometimes quite rare on here that people compare an "out of the box car" with another "out of the box car" Most threads go somethnig like, yeah standard apart from, blah blah blah etc etc

Load of rubbish !

  Peddled device
My mate used to have one.It was a little quicker than my old 205 Gti (before mods) pulling a car length or so on the M66 slip towards Pilsworth from Bury.

Even after mods my standard 172 Cup would have eaten my old 205 Gti.

That'll give you some idea of pace.

Read above then where I compare a standard one with an open filter (that loses it power) to my mildly modified 172 which effectively has breathing mods and a chip. Williams was faster and I'd hardly call my 172 Ph1 slow, as it would walk from a standard 1*2 as tested by Sideways Danny :)

That's because you don't rev above 4k! ;) (Joke...)

After having owned both a clio williams 1 and now the 172 cup (both standard), I would say the williams pulled away off the line quicker but the cup picks up pace at a frighting rate.. both highly enjoyable cars and yes the williams is a legend I still miss it now..

  williams 2 turbo
i currently have a turbo's one which is v, quick, but before had a hybrid, and that was standard, and that too was bloody quick, compared to a lot of newer cars it would get slaughtered, but it was fun to drive, thats the thing, id rather drive a little fun car, than something with a million horsepower.

about 4 years ago it all kicked off about this, so me, jon (2live) adi and craggy went out and tested:

standard vts
clio valver
williams (jons i might add!)
my 172

everything was videod and posted on here, if anyones still got the vids post em up, but there was nowt in it between the willy and my 172...the valver got leathered by everything.

in time jons modded williams went on to toast my 172 every time.
everyone always argues about it on here, it'll never go away lol

lol, ey up Paddy, still got all those vids on my computer from when 2 live killed his PC. Just missing a farmer with a shotgun lol

  123D Coupe + MK1 MX5
Lemme get this straight....

106 gti, neck and neck with williams, neck and neck with 172, neck and neck with ctr, neck and neck with rx8, neck and neck with escort cossie neck and neck with twin turbo supra neck and neck with Veyron?

So 106 gti neck and neck veyron?

Basically how car comparisons go online isn't it?

Jon, i'm not talking about anything your on about at all. I was making a generalisation about the forum as a whole :)

Not that fact! Feel fast coz there light, but above 90 there not that fast! gearing is pisch too, needs mapped to hit 60 in 2nd!

I would rather drive my Williams than the 172 - even though I reckon the 172 would be a touch quicker in certain situations.

Completely subjective, but I would say the Williams can carry at least 5% more speed through corners than the 172. Even though my 16v was fairly quick, both the others would have it on the bends. My 106GTi was also good on the bends both the Williams and the 172 would kill it at faster speeds.

...and I would gladly put a Williams up against a Honda CTR! ;)

Dont worry, my post was pre-emptive as I knew someone who owned a modded 172 and a shed of a Williams would come on shouting the odds, so I thought I'd mention mine as it made more than standard power when 172's couldn't even make standard book numbers. Just shows how a well looked after one without lottery winning miles will perform as good as new... or better. I never had a problem going from 0-limiter in 5th, but a lot are too far gone to do it. 1st engine pre death was 56k from purchase, died on around 77k and was replaced with an equally fast 22k engine with FSH.

  Rb182cup+s2 rallye
id say my 172 was fater than my tottally standard williams above 60 below that it was the williams being the faster car no doubt about that and both cars were tottaly standard and on less than 40k.
my hybrid on the other hand would kill them both lol

  2010 focus Rs
Me in my willy 3 (standard) had a go against my mates 172 cup (just a sports cat). took off from the lights in my williams and stayed in front upto around 60ish but then he claimed the car length back and started slightly pulling on me through each gear, i put this down to the limiter that comes with every williams, im changing gear at 6400rpm maxd wheres his 172 goes to 7200rpm, thats what just keep him slightly pulling away from me.
tbh i thought the williams did well for an old girl

Tezza88 write up is about as accurate as they come imo

0-60 doesent come in under 7 sec but they are farkin awsome

excellent post and right on the money.

the other is its "boggo standard mate", which turns out to mean you can fit any mod you want and claim its standard.

standard is factory standard and a factory standard williams is less than impressive to me.

Why bother? Stock on Stock the CTR is faster! end of!

I raced 2 willy's in my 182 and beat them both.

Some things will never change on this forum

Tight corners especially. There is no denying that a williams will carry more speed through the corner. end of

I panned the absolute living bejezuz out of Boz's 182 on here on a chance motorway encounter after a trackday. Was 2 up, full weekend gear for 2 people, helmets, 4 spare wheels, trolley jack, tools etc etc. Even starting off a gear higher it would easily leave it. No idea on the state of tune of his car at the time, looked standard, but I had about 300kg's of extra s**t in the car... including 2 live :rasp: lol

  clio v6
and a partridge in a pear tree,,,,LOL

so much bollox talked about williams clio and they are just so very very average,, would not thank you for one they are just so utterly unreliable and and unless modded are quite slow.

pick up issue 1 of performance car, or check out the drivers-republic.com, read everything they have to say about the williams in comparison to the 197cup and/or focus rs and learn some respect :rasp:

Why would I want to pick you up on your English? It's not text speak, but if your feeling left out I could throw some of my patented trade mark abuse your way? ;) lol Just because we disagree doesn't mean I automatically have a problem with you, I'd have to respect or at least care what you think in the first place for that to be the case. From your comments however I'd say you've never seen one let alone driven a Williams to find it 'average'. That's just trolling lol
