Absolutely LOVING the Intel i7-6900K CPU - she's a beauty! I'm currently working on a complex Adobe After Effects video sequence that took 6.5 hours to render on my MacBook Pro. I decided to download the Windows version of Adobe After Effects instead and loaded the project into that... boom, down to just over an hour
Shut up, I want it back soon yeah? lol

This 6850K is pretty good, mind you. Ryzen blender bench at 4.6Ghz

You should try out the thermal control tool.
By example; UEFI set 4.5Ghz @ 1.38v Adaptive. With the TCT set to throttle when the package temp exceeds the upper temp limit, the CPU throttles to 4.4Ghz at 1.34v

Makes good use of light workloads . You just need to hone in stability for both light/heavy obviously. I used Handbrake/Realbench to tune in the higher package temp limit, so that AVX stuff is stable.

Pascal Titan X @ 1230Mhz

I run 2560x1080 currently. AcerZ35 @ 144Hz. The panel overclocks to 200 but rarely use it. Doesn't require much more than 1920x1080 in terms of grunt.

Well as I've not played in a long time and don't really have time to I decided to sell my rig and stick it in the bank to add to the house deposit.

I've instead setup the desk as a hot desk for me and my mum to share as we both occasionally work from home.

USB Dock velcrod to the back of a monitor and wireless keyboard and mouse in the drawer as she uses a different one. Pretty happy with it although it's significantly less nerdy now.

I've neatened it up a bit since then though with the wiring and speaker placement.

EDIT: I can't get Mem TweakIt to work 😧

lol Andy, do you know what's funny about that score? Obviously mine is a 6850K so at a disadvantage in Blender, but AMD showed a demo of Ryzen's 8c/16t varient scoring 36 seconds, claiming it was faster than 6900K fractionally (at stock).

Doesn't look that way from here

I'm in the middle of setting up my home office 2.0. Got my desks and fitted cable trays to them, got 1 PDU fitted and another on order, just ordered a Philips hue lighting strip for the desks and waiting on the fitting of the bay window blinds then I can start doing the server / network install.

I am running a mild overclock but nothing too exotic. I would have to hire your services for a weekend so you could come over and tweak it for me :p

I noticed it said 3.9 afterward!. I can tell you vaguely what that CPU will do but it depends on cooling lol. 4.3Ghz should be around 1.28v. (Set VCCIN (input) to 1.93v

possible Recommendations for cloning / migration software?

I currently run a Samsung 850 Pro SSD as my boot / OS / C: drive. However, I want to transfer that over to my new Samsung M2 NVMe SSD and then make this my new boot drive. I was looking at using Symantec Ghost but the cost is stupid (it's no longer possible to buy a single licence). I've noticed the likes of solutions from Paragon and Acronis and was wondering if anyone had a) done this sort of hard drive transfer and b) what software was used.

Cheers

In theory it should work with any drive supported natively by the motherboard. It's a very lightweight piece of software that runs straight off of a USB/disc.

That company can be retarded

Please note - Due to 8Pack work commitments and build complexity, the minimum lead time for these systems is 42 working days. We will always endevour to meet this deadline but at busy times delays may occur. We will keep you informed of the system build progress.

For £24k I'd be expecting it to be delivered same day with a reach around while you sign for it.

42 days lol

Yeah they're having a bubble with that price. 4.4Ghz isn't that difficult to find from a Broadwell-E CPU, either.

Hardline looks great, but I play with too many parts to be faffing about with it every time I need to get to something

Got a bizarre issue with my PC currently. Every time my phone connects to the wifi in my house, my PC turns itself on 😂 I'm assuming it's a BIOS setting or something I've missed but I currently have 'wake on LAN' turned off and can't work out what else could be causing it.

It's an ASUS Z87 Deluxe/Dual mobo and I've got all the AI Suite software etc installed with it.

@SharkyUK did you ever come across this when you had this setup?

 No buddy - the system ran flawlessly from the first day to the last that I owned it! I routinely had multiple phones and tablets connecting to/from the wifi without issue. I have to admit I've never heard of this issue before - it's a strange one!!! What happens if you disable the AI Suite software? Does it still switch off?

That's a pretty cool issue to have. Basically your PC turns itself on when you get home for you.

It's turning the PC on after I have shut it down mate, not the other way about. Runs absolutely perfect when it's started. Not sure if you got mixed up there or that's a typo.

Not tried disabling the software yet but I'll maybe give that a go tonight. It's bizarre! Even after shut down and without the green light for the network card or anything on the I/O panel lit up it still wakes up randomly.

It tends to be more a case of it turning itself on at half 5 in the morning as my phone reconnects to wifi after I unlock it to turn off my alarm, and I absolutely shite myself as I'm still half asleep and not sure what's happening lol!

After which parts of the PC are replaced would one have to purchase a new Windows license? Motherboard I assume?

Not looking at changing internals yet but just something I was wondering about.

Mines reactivated itself when I swapped motherboard a few months back. Just clicked the option for a change of hardware when I started back up and it popped up asking to reactivate windows. Was surprisingly easy!

Ah - sorry mate, I misread your post initially. Even so I have no idea how / why that would be happening. I know there are apps that you can use to wake up your PC automatically when your mobile connects to your home wi-fi but they have to be configured and setup beforehand, something I'm assuming you haven't done! I don't know what to suggest at the moment...

Finally going to bite the bullet, I think, after mo this of procrastinating and actually get myself a machine again.

Really tempted by an nCase M1 itx build.

Only thing stopping me ordering it now is I've got loads of ideas as to what I could use a machine for right now, and for some of them would be nice to have more than 32Gb RAM, so going ITX is a limitation there.
That said probably wouldn't be doing it right away anyway, and can still get some stuff done with 32
Be something to tinker with to start with.
I'd have bought one of the Dan A4 cases if I'd remembered in time when they were going on sale ;)
