iPad Mini

The retina is minimally different on the iPad IMO.

You're obviously entitled to your opinion, but I really do find these statements difficult to digest. I can only guess that not everyone's brain processes visual information in the same way. I've used both iPad 2 (I own one) and the Retina version. Rather than the difference being minimal, it is in fact, to me at least, massive. I hate my iPad. All I see is pixels. Even on a plain background. I would love to get the Mini, but Apple will put a Retina screen in it next week :(

Thank god someone said this. When the retina iPad came out earlier this year everyone was going crazy at how good the screen was (rightly so, it's sharp as f**k), now suddenly they don't care and there's hardly any difference.

The iPad mini does look great but make no mistake, the screen is a disappointment.

So pixel density increases.

It's also a better panel than the 2. More vivid.

I'm actually quite pleasantly surprised at the price point of the iPad mini, they'll do well.

I think it's ridiculously expensive for what it is. I've just picked up a 32gb Nexus 7 for £200. Far better value.

Disagree there. This time last week I'd say you were bang on. But it's the better device of the two overall.

Yes the 7 beats it on spec (ish) but spec is irrelevant when overall performance and ecosystem blows it away.

It's a premium product, hence the price.

Just walked into the Apple Shop in Meadowhall and picked one up. Cancelled my pre order which wasn't due for delivery until the 16th. Can't wait to get home and set it up.

I still won't touch the Mini until it has Retina, but I'm spoiled now, as my everyday computer is so endowed.

I've just purchased a Mini as a gift for a loved one, but I will personally be buying iPad4 just as soon as I can find local stock. Display is everything to me.

I can assure you the display is a big improvement over the iPad 2. Surely as a "Baller" you want the best ;)

Just buy it and sell it once the Mini with Retina is out.

I prefer the feel of using a quality product. So went for the iPad.

I've also got an iPad 2 (which my girlfriend has now stolen, hence the new Nexus), and I don't think build quality of the Nexus is a million miles away from the iPad. In fact, I'd say it's on a par.

The battery on the mini is fudging immense.

4 hours use and battery has dipped 13%.

£50 says you take the 10 back in a week.

You're probably right mate! I just fancy trying something new for a while, maybe. iOS is boring me to tears, and I'm growing tired of digging down into menus to change things that I should have instant access to.

Deep down, I know I'll end up up buying iPad 4

Also work if you use personal hotspot on the iPhone to connect the iPad to the web.

As you'd expect though.

Fondled one yesterday. Looked lovely in the black especially and was a really good size.

We are looking at getting a smaller tablet to go with the iPad we already have. However I also like the Nexus 7 and fancy having a play with one for a bit.

The thing with the nexus 7 is its priced at a near impulse level. The mini (for most people) is just a touch beyond that (probably better value in the long run)

To be honest the funds are there for either so price doesnt really come into it for me this time. Just fancy something different to play with. If I find I get bored or want a change will sell and take the hit and get a Mini.

One of my main deciding reasons is that I want something capable of playing a lot of different media formats without faffing around converting etc. The Nexus fits the bill well for this.

I am off to Turkmenistan with work for 3-4 weeks next week so will probably grab one locally to try and then make my mind up while away :)

Doesn't support avi out of the box apparently. But im sure theres an app that does.

Hd a go in the Apple store yesterday. Was nice, looked great, but like the IP5, it sems to have gone super light! Not sure I like that TBH!

The Nexus 7? I will be rooting it straight away and putting a ROM on I have seen so I dont think that would be an issue. Surprised it does not support it out the box.

Yes. Just had a quick look (a mate had mentioned it) seems to be very fussy about encoding.

Out of interest, why would you need to replace the stock rom? (im not being a c**t, just asking)

I'm curious to know this too.

I had my first proper play with an iPad mini last night. I will say one thing, it's nowhere near as small as I thought, perhaps that's to do with the 4:3 ratio which isn't such a bad thing on a 7" screen. Still wish they'd increased the DPI though, that was very obvious to me (although not as obvious as the iPad 2).

The screen is closer to 8" tbh. 7.9" is closer to 8" than 7" I'd say.

Also, finally had to charge our mini last night so whilst that was on charge I picked up our ipad 2. Fudge me does it feel heavy and bulky compared to the mini.

So far no regrets with our mini purchase. Can see us getting rid of the 2 as it'll probably only get used now when the mini is flat.

I have to say I am impressed with how popular the Mini has been. I know many people who are wanting one, even those with iPads already.

Also goes to show how people are prepared to sacrifice the performance for the size of the thing. I mean inside it's an iPad 2 so on paper it's older technology, all be it totally capable. Seems a lot of people are prepared to over look that, even techy types I know because the Mini is deemed more convenient and portable.
