is this normal on a 172???

  Clio 172, Clio 200
I would take it back if I could. Yes I paid 4k. here is a list of problems I have:

Engine noise, stalling and failing to start
CD Player noise
In-car light buzzing, stops when you push up on it
Rust in spot lights
Trip computer not working
non standard 172 clock (140mph instead of 160mph)
Auto windscreen wipers not working
Wheel bouncing in first
rear windscreen wiper blade faulty (should not have passed the MOT)

  Mini Cooper S sport
You shouldn't have bought that in the first place. The clock is what I'd be most worried about, that sounds very dodgy.

Take it back.

I tried saying to the garage I want to give it back and they said I would have to get Solicitors to do it. What should I say!?

Right, Lets break this down.

Those clocks aren't sport clocks, there from a non-rs, a very basic non-rs at that.

This would explain the lack of trip computer stuff.

Also explains the GAZ GAS light. It is the same place as the shift light on the rs, so when you floored that's why it lit up.

You haven't got traction control, It wasn't introduced til mid 2003.

You most probably have got auto light/wipers. Just need to turn it on etc.

Solicitor up mate, It would appear to be a very suspect car.

I was going to contact Citizens Advice but will need to wait to Monday. Will also need to call trading standards then as well. I wonder if they will take it back if I say they can keep the 100 deposit I paid.

I'm so annoyed cause I didn't know any of this when I brought it. but still they should have told me the clocks had been changed. Guess what else is worrying...on my warranty invoice it says millage '57,298' and I have only done like 57,1xx (something)

Do anything you can to take it back to them. Sounds like a complete shed, dodgy clocks and fooked engine - get rid of it ASAP.

EDIT: From what you've just said, sounds like they've clocked it.

I don't think any of those reasons are enough to warrant money back. These are things you should have checked/looked into before buying instead of just giving them the money anyway.

Having said that, with a solicitors letter they might give you the cash back, but they're not under any obligation to do so. You might just be able to scare them into doing it.

If there's one thing this club should do, it is to offer some sort of buddy service, so noobs don't end up with problems like this.
A 2nd set of experienced eyes would be priceless.

I have got this car on finance so didn't pay cash no. I did test drive it but the engine sounded fine. I only noticed 20 minutes into the journey home, pulled up at home and its been bad since.

This trader is called Auto Buddy in Wolverhampton, autobuddy.com.

I have emailed the garage with the list of faults and currently waiting for a response. They have made it very clear if I want to reject the car I will need to take legal action as they are only willing to repair it. The trading standards website states "If you have a problem with a used car, you have a short time after buying it to reject the car". I haven't yet owned the car a full 24 hours so I think I fit perfectly into this catagory.

Hello, I have just purchased a Clio 172, 52 plate. I am not sure if some things are supposed to be there or not.

1. When I press the right hand stick to toggle the trip computer nothing happens. I thought a trip computer was standard on a clio 172?

2. No automatic windscreen wipers of lights

3. No traction control, definately thought this was standard!

4. Does anyone know waht the is? It came on when I put my foot down then went off. G
GAZ
S

Other than all of that, the engine is making a very horrible noise, sometimes doesn't start and stalls when the car is going slowly (not in gear and definately not stalling for obvious reasons)

This is being sorted by the garage but I wanted to know if the above are normal or if for example the trip computer is broken etc.

I would appreciate any of your help!

Thanks,

Adam

Emails will be a waste of time. Either call and speak to the manager or go down there. Emails will just get ignored and fobbed off.

You need direct action if you want to fix this..

As said, Emails are a waste of time. Go down there. If you phone them they'll just say they'll phone you back and won't bother.

If you tell them you have proof the clocks have been changed, so it has been clocked I think they may take it back pretty sharpish, make sure you get every penny back as well.

I imagine a solicitor will be useful though.

Shouldn't really need a solicitor as the finance company should be enough... defo speak to them first on Monday

ESP was introduced July 2002, mines an 02 reg and hasn't got it.

Here's what the clocks should look like if you want to show it to the finance company. Also did you pay the £100 deposit by credit card because that will give you some protection.

Oops why did that come out as 2093?? Bloody phone :(

someone earlier said it was 2003. I was just saying mines an 02 reg and has it.

Surely one mention to the finance company of changed clocks and mileages that don't match each other on the documents will get them on the case?

if the engine sounded horrible why did you buy it, also there is a guide about the auto wipers/lights.

Autobuddy are primarily a leasing company and they are pretty well known and tbh have a good reputation, i've seen them mentioned a few times in autoexpress and autocar with only good things.
