What size wheels can I fit on a newer shape 172 with any chaffing?

The car has original suspension

up to 17s with possible slight rubbing.

So if I use elastic band tyres things should be okay then!!

i have 17s and coilovers set at -40mm and the back is fine but the fronts rub the arch liners when you go round a roundabout at speed and compress the nsf suspension under load
