whats a fair price for a mk2 03 dci cambelt + waterpump change?

  clio dci
Hi guys, as the title says really, been quoted a few different prices (£360, £300 and £255) awaiting a reply from another currently, also can a faulty waterpump cause a drastic loss in coolant? As this is what one garage has blamed it on, thanks

Just had another for £370, also the one that quoted £300 was a local renault speacialist (reno-tech)

£360 sounds a bit much to me. The £300 mark is about right. That's what mine cost me a few months back anyway, and that included the water pump and a new aux belt too (not that they cost a lot).

When you say a drastic loss of coolant, what do you mean? Did you lose coolant over a matter of hours, days, weeks etc? If the gasket on the water pump is fucked then the coolant would leak out of there, so it's possible.

Well the other day i probably drove the car 15-20 miles and the bottle went from half way to empty and everytime the car is moved the level drops a few millimeters

Fair price is £45 for the belt, £25 for the WP and 3 to 4 hours labour.

If Renotech are using genuine parts then the belt is around £60/70 and the WP more so their price looks best to me. Cheaper prices will use non gen as I've quoted prices for above

It really is the easiest job in the world.

I did one in exchange for a curry it's that easy. I felt well paid.

I could never trust myself on a job this serious, i would get it all back together and find out i havent plugged things back in or find more nuts and bolts haha

I'm just trying to go for the best all round deal as i was hoping to get abit more time out of it before this whole job needed doing :/

It's only 15 bolts or so and the gates kit comes with great instructions

head to renotech though if you don't want to give it a go

It's more than that for a genuine cambelt kit, retail is about £130 iirc

f**k trying to claim a warranty on eBay parts!

I had an aux tensioner fail a few weeks back which Renault didn't even question and paid out. I'd sooner loose a bit of profit like!

Very true mate. I usually try and opt for smiths on eBay as they are a real dealer but they don't seem to be listing them at the momento.
