what would stop my petrol gauge working

it hardly moves now, and if i tap the plastic where the dial is it moves very very slowly, simple or pain in the bum to fix?

3 possibilities:-

1,faulty fuel gauge

2,faulty tank sender unit

3,wiring fault between sender unit and fuel gauge.

sender unit can be accessed through an inspection hole underneath the rear seats.check the connections.you could also try bridging out the sender unit gauge wires to see if you can get the fuel gauge to read max.if you can then the sender unit is at fault.cant remember the pin numbers i would have to check.
