What is this? Air vent?

It lets air out when you shut the door so your ears don't pop with the sudden pressure.

Think it has something to do with keeping fumes out as well.

Edit: Damn you Rob.

Haha oh ok. thanks. Think I'll put it back then :S

Is the leather flap actually needed though? For example if I was to tie it back. It's making a very annoying noise!

Thinking about it again. I'd assume it doesn't matter, the whole is still there to let pressure out if need be?

Fumes from where? No more than if I had my windows open surely? It's not as if the exhaust is pointing up towards the under side of the car.

I just cant deal with the noise it's been making

It won't really make a difference, but that's what it's there for. To not let fumes from the exhaust area into the boot. I don't get what's been making the noise though?

Remember, you're sucking a big bubble of relatively still air behind you, which is FULL of exhaust fumes. Trust me, I've learnt the hard way that you don't want this entering the cabin.

McGherkin, you learnt the hard way how?

I once built a racer for the Shell Eco Marathon, with the engine mounted outside at the back of the car. Because the c**kpit had a vertical back to it, we were trapping a load of still air behind the c**kpit, right where the exhaust was kicking out. The bulkhead at the back of the c**kpit had a few fairly big holes in it, and fumes caught in the still air seeped through and filled the c**kpit after a while. I got some mega headaches but the B driver came back from a run almost unconcious. We taped up the holes after that.
